First change: everything is stored in cloud and you must allow the game to connect to a server. :(

NOT good, devolution!

EDIT: old crack by TJ works, but game CTDs within 10 seconds if playing on hardcore.

And why would that be "not good" in your eyes?
A ton of Games now a days sure cloud services for many reasons, even Singleplayer ones. At this point it would be harder to find a new Mainstreamtitle that is not using any type of Cloud/ Webservices.

Call me old fashioned, but I don't see a need for a single player game to require online connection (iirc that was a reason diablo 3 almost tanked). Especially don't like it when adult/indie games connect to the internet. If it needs to save game there is plenty of space on my hdd to do that. If I have 10gb for the game then by fuck I have 1mb for the save.

Also, the hardcore mode CTD is unrelated to using TJ's crack.

For the most part, singleplayer games that tie major functionality to online servers either have or plan to have microtransactions (sometimes without the micro-). There is no customer-beneficial reason to make a singleplayer game online only. The defensible reason is DRM, but most do it to extract the most money from their customers as possible. In addition, I contest your last sentence, unless by Mainstream you mean published by EA. If your nonporn gaming experience is just CoD and/or FIFA, then I'm sorry for your loss.

LOL. Server not accessible. And that is why you don't use cloud services for authentication. Whenever the cloud server goes down, the game is unplayable. Like most games that require cloud services for authentication.

will the crack from the first page work for this newer version?
Probably. If the server is available. Which for me, it currently isn't. And I have a 300 megabit connection, so I doubt its on my end.

Whelp. Back to SurrounDead, until the server is up then :p

I'll put it in a spoiler, because it's getting a bit off-topic:

Ok, and what about Souls games like Elden Ring?
Its a single player game at its core, yet you need a Online connection for the full game experience (because of the Invade mechanic). Is it now a bad game because of that?
Maybe Devolution has already floated a similar Idea around somewhere?
Can't be for DRM purposes, since the Crack apparent still works and why "add it" and not use it?

Most souls games offer the option of going offline. Its not recommended, but I've done solo offline runs of Dark Souls and Demon Souls on PS3, and its doable if you know what you are doing.

Yes, it can be for DRM purposes. If you can figure out legitimate buyers from nonlegit ones, based on their IP addresses, you can ban by IP address, and prevent server authentication. Its what most games with a multiplayer component does to deal with hackers or botters on things like Rust or Conan Exiles.

Conceivably, when connecting to the server, it checks what your .lic file is, and could apply an IP ban to anyone using the crack. Thus preventing anyone from playing the game in the future, even if they change out the .lic file, as most don't know how to change their IP address, except via a VPN.

And as the .lic file was originally created as DRM... this could be a way the developer is trying to use to get around the cracked .lic file. Because honestly, the save file sizes aren't that large and the saves aren't even compatible between versions, so the reasoning behind using the cloud for saving is pretty suspicious.

Is that bad? Like is the Patreon/SubscribeStar paywall going to actually be enforced? I mean, if online means he'll add multiplayer some time in the future, that'd be cool.
no what that means if the multiplayer servers are no long in service, you cannot play the game any more, this is a single player game but need authentication from online server services to ensure copyright rights are monitored like steam or epic game game stores not game u buy from gog which is DRM free.

game is in development not sure why DRM is placed so high in the priority, time better invested in making the game better and hence sell more copies on launch... just penny wise pound foolish...
