I assumed because they just went shopping or dancing or something else like that and the important conversation for backstory had ended. So, that would be a lot to render without adding anything of substance to the story.

And the mom is apprehensive about getting too close to the Mc who isn't even related to her because she thinks it'll be breaking boundaries and she say in more than one scene and more than one way after her mother-daughter evening with the youngest girl that she hasn't done anything more than please herself in a long time. I took the fade to black to be them going out to dance and drink and just have innocent fun together. It would be kind of weird, in my mind based on what we've seen so far, for it to be anything more than that.

surely my mind is sick, then I have a predilection for mother-daughter interactions, having said that I don't know, I also understand your point of view, it seems like an "innocent" scene but it could have been represented even more innocent, if you notice at the beginning the daughter has a surprised face, while the mother approaches, like "what the fuck is she doing?"
