Just found out about this game recently, and even though it's been done for a while now, I think I'll give my 2 cents; I don't think "bad ending" or "sad endings" are bad per se, it just depends on the feelings the story up to that point where invoking on the reader. This is something really hard to explain, since it's more "vibes" than anything, but people hate having control taken away from them in any fashion, so making them think your story is going to have a good ending and then not giving them that just feel bad. Good examples for these situations: Saya no Uta, Kara no Shoujo, CHAOS;HEAD, even Euphoria. The story makes it clear from the begining to the end that the story is not about a happy ending, it's about something else. Even with some light moments and some moments of hope sprinkled there, it's always obvious that things are gonna go bad. Of course, shock moments can be good, but not the ending. The ending is meant to wrap up what happened in the story until then, including the reader's feelings. Things can go bad in a story, but it needs to happen in the middle or the final moments of the story, not the ending.
I know that, and I know that I fucked up. This is not a good written ending, it could've worked if I set it up correctly, but I didn't and that is my bad. I lacked an experience on endings and how to do them, but DR was my experimentation game where I tested every thought that come across on my mind and the ending was one of them.

I'm now well aware on how to do this type of ending, but I can't change it now. It's already out. I just wanted to give Serena a better ending by giving her a meaningful goodbye, but it didn't really work even though everything is all happy in the end, the execution leaves a bad taste in the player's mouth.

The mistake is that you think people want those kind of endings. They generally don't.
It's very simple actually.

Don't kill LIs, it's a cardinal sin in AVNs, even the ones living in MCs head.
Avoid unnecessary drama and don't try to be edgy as fuck. The mid 90s were 30 years ago not yesterday. :WeSmart: fuck I'm old...

You could have just ended the game without any drama at all and have a good feel ending and everybody would have been happy.
And before you say it's a happy ending it's not. At least not for us the player. The MC will live with his girls happily ever after but that's out of the scope of any game.
What we the player didn't get was the birth of the children, the being there for the girls during that time etc... which would have been really good scenes, a sense of closeness, love and being happy.
We missed that because you tried to be edgy. Again the mid 90s were 30 years ago and being an edgy emo wasn't cool back then either.

Like I said, man. I've had an idea and wanted to go with it, I wasn't thinking about what would people want, that was never my main focus. If I wanted to follow a script, I wouldn't start creating stuff in the first place. I was just testing out ideas and going with it. I know the majority of people would love a perfect happy ending, but I just wanted to push myself to do more, the end result wasn't great, but I learned a lot from it and that's a win in my book.

Well, I'll rate this a 7/10. Honestly, the MC feels useless here only Serena seems to be doing anything, but well she.... And yeah, of course, this is a fantasy story with an immoral premise, but there are a lot of things I want to complain about, especially the weird setting.

To be honest, since it's immoral, I thought the MC would end up having that kind of relationship with his own child, but thankfully, it didn't go that far. Also, the scenes from Chapter 6 and below felt underwhelming because there were so few of them. And I found it a bit unsettling how they got pregnant and going everywhere why was it written like this? I actually feel bad seeing it..

Anyway, thanks for reading this comment.

What do you think of the ending? gonna need some of your unbiased opinion if possible.

if i think what you think what part about comments seem off, you can start from pg 136, the day final update for harem path were uploaded.

Thats the thing the game was very happy and good but then you go for a shocking ending and boom you get shoted and in a come and you come back when your daguhters are already grow and you didnt be here for them a very dick move that ending really kicked my in the balls i didnt mine if this happened before in the story but you be in coma a couple of months and laster you make a orgy and later ser your daguhters born and all of that it would be more cool and more happy but well .....

That's a pretty boring way to write tbh. Clannad, possibly the best slice of life anime and visual novel ever has the best ending hidden behind the main LI and her and the MC's daughter dying. Air, also one of the best anime ever has the MC and the main LI both dying on the best possible ending to the story.
I've never read a book with a sad ending and thought it sucked for it, watched a movie with a bad ending and thought it sucked for it or played a game with a sad ending and thought it sucked for it. That whole everything needs to be sunshine and rainbows BS is really just a product of the most emotionally insecure AVN fans, usually harem fans who base their entire personality around liking harem. The dev shouldn't make their game according to other people's tastes, it should be the game they want to make from beginning to end. Not to say there isn't useful feedback they can consider but they shouldn't have to derail their entire ending, their artistic vision for their story, just to appease people's insecurities.
Clannad as the best written anything ever is a funny as hell statement.

I actually have a question about the ending. Can you avoid the dumpster fire that the dev wrote if you just don't get into a relationship with Sarah?

Sometimes you release something and folks don't find the ending satisfying. It happens. But you actually completed something, which is a lot more than most aspiring creators across any form of media can say. Always be proud of that accomplishment, internalise the lessons it taught you, and take into account feedback for any future projects that target that same audience.

You have a really healthy mentality about it all, and we love to see it.

How does one change the MC name for replays? I accidentally left it blank because I clicked on the "unique gallery" before knowing the default name. which I think it was a weird choice for that to be blank by default as opposed to how it is at the very start of the game where it starts with the default name
