RPGM - Completed - Detective Girl of the Steam City [v2.01] [Clymenia/Kagura Games]

A decent RPGm game that's not too grindy and has a good variety of content for it's length.

Combat and exploration are what you can expect from your standard RPM eroge but it isn't unbearably grindy as it can be in other games nor is the grind for corruption and CGs.

Detective Girl of the Steam City [v2.01] [Clymenia/Kagura Games]

    Overall - 6.5/10
Recommend if you like corruption + tomboy, not too grindy.

Classic corruption RPG - masturbate and/or do things that lead to more corruption, less reason = more corruption -> more Hscenes around town.
Feels like story ends early and you just do random quests
    Story - 4/10
It was kinda cool at the start detective -> be a detective of the thief antagonist -> after random odd jobs and helping police/mafia
2 main paths - police or mafia - game allows you to complete one and come back for the other.
    Police -> stop mafia activity
    Mafia -> eliminate rival mafia
    Sounds - 6/10
    Classic RPG music.
    Hscenes - 8/10
No animations just CG, but tomboy stuff + corruption good.
Maybe 20 or so scenes, they are usually in a quest line. So teasing -> touching -> Hscene
    Playability - 6/10
Combat - can be solved via actual combat + upgrade fist, or upgrade for heals. But can also learn other ways to "avoid" combat (only for small grunts)
Map is kinda big, but location is named top right and quest tracker should be enough - can enable super speed
Corruption is gated by corruption events + masturbating - can be tiny bit grindy

Beautiful art, beautiful scenes, but I lost interest in the story towards the end. I have a problem with corruption games where once they are fully corrupted or close to it, I lose interest because I feel like the game is over. I would say somewhere around halfway through the game I was fully corrupted and dropped it shortly after.

All that being said, definitely worth a play because it was really hot up until that point for me and I have some sort of autism for not being able to play the whole game which is unique to me.

The game features two main storylines: one for the police and one for the gang. The police quests are well-crafted and are easily the highlight of the game—worth playing for that storyline alone. In contrast, the gang storyline is essentially an endless loop of dull, repetitive combat—some of the most tedious I’ve encountered in an RPG Maker game.

To cut down on the number of battles, the game offers three alternative techniques: persuasion, backstabbing, and seduction. Backstabbing requires you to—quite literally—sneak up behind an enemy. The problem is, opportunities to do this cleanly are rare. Most of the time, you have to bait the enemy into chasing you, then run away until they give up and start walking back to their post. That’s your moment to strike. Honestly, this ends up being more exhausting and time-consuming than just fighting, so the skill often doesn’t feel worth using.

Persuasion lets you try convincing enemies to leave before the battle even starts. It works occasionally and can help skip a few fights, which is a welcome break. Then there’s seduction. To unlock it, you first have to lower the main character's "Reason" to 75 so she agrees to work at the brothel, where she learns the ability. I didn’t try this route myself, but it might actually be the most efficient way to progress through the slums. Still, seduction doesn’t work on everyone—and bosses are immune to all three techniques: persuasion, backstabbing, and seduction. That said, seduction seems like a stronger version of persuasion, so there’s little reason to invest in persuasion if you plan to go down that path. Seduction doesn’t require skill points to learn btw.

I attempted to complete the gang storyline through combat alone, but it became so exhausting that I gave up at “Slums F.” I later learned the final area was “Slums H,” so I was close—but I just didn’t have the will to continue.

Despite its flaws, I think the game has great—if underused—potential. Take the thief girl, for example. Why are there so few scenes and interactions with her? She’s literally on the cover! Honestly, she’s a more vibrant and interesting character than the main protagonist. It feels like a real missed opportunity—almost a crime, considering how little the developer did with her.

The same goes for the police storyline. There should have been ten times more content in that arc. The quests are genuinely enjoyable, and if the game had focused more on that side of things, it could’ve been great, not just good. But as it stands, it remains a solid game that falls short of its potential simply because it ends too soon.

That said, it's still one of the better games out there. The atmosphere is immersive, and the setting feels refreshingly different. The core issue is that it just doesn't last as long as you'd want it to.

Detective Girl of the Steam City is decent. I certainly think of it as a step up from the developer's previous title Public Defense Corp, however, there are still issues present which put it as an average title overall for me.

    TL;DR
If you like the design of the girl and don't mind classic RPG-M timewasters, consider this a decent gallery unlocker and head in. For the rest of us, probably worth a download, but you can keep it down your list. Don’t expect anything great, but it’s alright!

    Longer version
The game is relatively short with my total playtime only hitting about 5 hours in a main session where I did everything and then a newgame+ where I explored as much of the H-content as I could. While it is relatively short, I wasn't feeling fully invested other than lightly to the main story.

I will say the story does a good job here and the characters fit well. The dialogue is mostly good with just a few hiccups, and the setting ties it all together well. The developer also clearly spent some effort with a story and it's easy to stay engaged.

The combat is pretty tedious and while you can go with persuasive methods around it, the most enticing one - that being H-scenes, unfortunately doesn't have a lot of variety.

I really like Clymenia’s artist, and Sophie as the main character is both cute and hot. In general, the H-content is good; there just isn’t a lot of it and it’s very segmented. As compared to Public Defense Corp, Detective Girl has better UI and a more solid gameplay-to-story connection.

    Conclusion
If you take this game as a pure gallery unlocker, it’s relatively short, but can still at times be boring. The game can excite enough for a decent couple of sessions. While not great, it’s OK, and assuming Clymenia is working on another full game I would be hopeful they learn from their previous titles to deliver great future content.

I continuously played it without taking any break, it was that immersing. The only game of this type which exceeded my expectations, we need more games like this one. Hoping for a second part for this one but in a new environment.

Great game with both interesting mechanics and the story. In the first playthrough (unless you grind the reason down) it plays like a simple VN game with a small detective storyline. Almost no erotic scenes are possible.

But during the post-game content it is easier to lower the level of reason down and start getting various H-scenes. Also in the NG+ with such a low level the new "possibilities" are opened for more sex scenes. The scenes themself are diffetent and hot. Some reuse of artwork lowers the impression a bit, but still lots of various kinks are included.

Overall game has a good artwork, normal detective story and not too grindy gameplay. Although I put a 5 star rating, it's not a perfect game, but very solid one which I liked a lot.

    It was dissapointing.

The art and sex scenes both look pretty good, but the variaty is lacking.

    Music is good.

Combat is pretty boring and the enemy sprites just feel cheap.

Story is okay, but very basic.

Corruption system is very bad, you can just mastrubate until you have max corruption.

It's a good start, but sadly it's too short and only has the bare minimum CGs.
Expect no more than a dozen of different CGs.

Despite the lack of unique CGs, it's a good simple game.
I really liked the setting and corruption aspect. But still, it's clearly a sex game.

Good drawn art, pixel-art is really good.
Music is prime rpgmaker material, sounds too.
Gameplay(combat if you go gangster) is too easy and simple, you can also skip 99% of it besides bosses. Not that much of variety in items since not that much variety in fighting. The skills/levels etc are very simple.
It definitely has its charm and it has a bit h-scenes(some of them very similiar though)

extremely short if u do the main police quests.

furthermore journal is half existent, sometimes it's there on top left but you have no control over it so if you dont pay attention you will be lost because half the time it's useless either it doesnt appear or it shows a different quest than you are interested in

sex scenes are nearly nonexistant if you play it as intended since the game is over before you can increase your corruption (aka decrease your "reason")

and even the available sex scenes are not that interesting either. when you max out your corruption there are some nice sex scenes... but by that time you are a gigaslut so it loses its oompf.

so it's a mediocre game. even a bit grindy. if you don't play it through in 1 sitting you will be guaranteed lost.

i was planning on giving it 2/5 or 1/5 but o well some nice art, some nice characters, some funny scenarios, some interesting sex scenes so all in all mid.

The art is pretty good, and the scenes are well-written. I really like the corruption, and despite being a hentai game, the story is interesting enough. I also really like the RPG elements in this one. Really good game.

(english is not my main languages)

    Story (4/5) :

The context of the story is simple your are the daughter of a famous detective and you want to become like your father.
I really like the story and different branches, all the event got a little story i really enjoy it.

    Characters (5/5) :

I really like the main character, she is cool, pretty and handsome at the same time (i want to cry we have a skinny and petite woman not the usually big-breasted girl), Sherlockomesque (meticulous in all the aspect), she have a lot of insight.

The sub-characters are really unique too, they all have their background so we are really engaged in the story (like the blonde-thieve).

    Art (5/5) :

The Art is beautiful in generals : characters, map, scene everything is of a high quality and enjoyable

    Scene (5/5) :

The scenes are hot (thanks to the main character) and diverse with different kinks for you to discover ;).

    Combat (3/5) :

The combat are simple : you have an attack button, abilities, give up it's not innovative but it's okay nothing more to say.

    Map (5/5) :

At first the map feels a bit messy but it's really to easy to understand each zone.

    Map/Slum (2/5) :

I didn't like it, it's tedious to move (i already play the game 3 times so now i move freely but im talking when it was my first playtrough)
You don't have like a travel point or anything so when you need to go back to each slum to farm the upgrade, you do the two zone and after that you need to go back yourself to the exit point and you loose a lot of time and patience to do it.

    Event (5/5) :

I really like the many event of this game and the repeatability you can easily miss something (
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
    )

They are 22 secret event to discover so take your time to found them all ! (or not )

    Items/upgrade (2.5/5) :

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
The other items are decorative only the hat is give you a little stat but in this game you don't need much.

    Length :

You can finish the game fast if you rush the event and the main story maybe like 2 hours but if you take your time you can 4+?

    Music (5/5) : Good

To finish this game is really good and fun to play, a little bit of grind for the upgrade but the story, event, scene, art counterbalance this little flaw.

Thanks for reading ! (see ya for the next one)

A simplistic RPGM game has no reason being this good.
    Music? Banger
    Content? Hot
A mission that tests if you're actually paying attention (for 3 sentences)? Hilarious

The tomboy thing is just the cherry on top.

Perfection if u love tomboys, :) my favorite game cause i love tomboys really there arent a lot of games with this theme so its really important to say it. Fight mechanics are good a bit too easy but good but the protagonist is so sexy u wont notice

If i had to rate this game against bigger titles like Karryns prison, Celesphonia, Demons roots, Ideology in friction etc. then its gonna be B tier

The game mechanics are average and combat mechanics are honestly pretty pointless since you only have a set skills and theres no min maxing equipments which is either a plus or a minus depending on how you enjoy an RPGM game

The exploration aspect is pretty good tho with the night vision and grappling hook mechanics but theres only a set map area you run around in which is again something up to taste

The story however could be better executed cause everything past the prologue phase feels like its forced just to satisfy the H criteria it needs

The H scenes are great and with goodangles but it lacks variety across different corruption stage which is fatal for a corruption game

The story is atleast okish, nay its fkng average and its honestly a slog to play through

The character especially the MC is quite refreshing and endearing which is the only great part of this game while the rest can only be considered AVERAGE

Ill be honest i came in with high exceptions but was left disappointed :(

Just finished playing this RPG and it was pretty good. You basically play as a young female detective that has this tomboyish appearance, solving crimes across a steampunk themed city of London. Most of this game however doesn’t revolve around you exploring a crime scene and finding clues to solve a case. That would only occur for a few missions but I’m not saying it's a bad thing. The storytelling was very spot on and some of the dialogue was pretty funny. Although I wouldn't say its very compelling.

I’m not sure why there are people out there complaining about this game being too linear since there really are some events that you can miss if you don’t pick the right choices. I was able to collect all the main events but not all of the 22 mini-events and I don’t feel like they’re that important to go through.

As for the H-scenes, they aren’t bad at all. They’re not too long and some of the dialogue during them does provide some insight towards the main story which is pretty clever to ensure the player doesn’t skip them. Plus they also provide some background information for the side characters allowing us to get to know them more.

Overall it was quite enjoyable and intriguing to play as a boyish female detective having sex with multiple guys while solving crimes. What’s not to like?

I would have liked to have enjoyed this game more... But it has some problems...

For a game that has the premise of being a detective story, there aren't many things to research in the cases. Yes, I know it's a H GAME, and that the objective is very much the detective part.... But even so, I thought it could be something different.

As far as the H game goes, there's the problem that it takes a lot of masturbation to unlock the scenes, which makes the game very repetitive and there's also the fact that the game forgets to explain its own mechanics... I finished it without knowing how to do the lockpick.

As for the scenes, I liked almost all of them, and most of them are very much to my taste. Apart from the urine scenes.

Overall, it was a good game, but it lacked polish, especially in the mechanics.
