2019-08-02 Making Strides

As I'm pushing forward with the renders for the second half of v1.0.7 I find I have some downtime between test renders.

So today I took some of those precious extra minutes to work on one of my promises for the next release.

I'm happy to report there is now a fully functional "Jump Menu" included in the next release. This will allow you to immediately transport to any scene in the game whether you've completed it or not (who the hell am I to tell you what order you should enjoy these things).

One of the cool benefits of this implementation is that it leaps forward from your current position. So if you're curious about what impact a choice you just made will have on a future scene, you can make the choice and then immediately jump forward to see its effects.

As the game grows there will be more diversity and impact from your decisions making this a fun toy to play with.

Eventually (maybe this release, maybe a couple from now) I'll have a built in system for modifying the character attributes so you can enter a new scene with whatever stats you like. This will take some more time to build, but it's on the drawing board.

Thus while I can no longer ensure that your saves won't always work while I'm putting this thing together, I can at least offer you the ability avoid the torture of replaying scenes you've already seen. I'm afraid it's the best I can do.

For now, I must return to rendering.

Salute my friends!
Fuuuuck..... that planner looks superb! Like, fantastically superb!

I don't know if someone sayed this but, the Dev know that Bolivia is in America? Because when the MC ask Lupita where she is from (Bolivia), later say "What are you doing in America?" or something like that. Is weird, the explanations are or the MC don't know about geography or the Dev don't know about Geography.
As Americans we tend to differentiate between "North America", "Central America", and "South America" and that the people of the United States refer to their country as "America".

So how you express is the correct way?? Interesting. Because one thing is America, the continent and North America and South America. You calling a Country like all the continent is not a good explanation and don't change that fact.

Speaking of credit where credit is due! It was inspired by PDA in "Heavy Five". I didn't think there was a need for any kind of stats or inventory system in my game until I played Heavy Five and realized how useful a character database could truly be. Especially as the cast list has continued to grow. So huge thanks to you for demonstrating the proof of concept in the first place!

And thus your inspirational contribution will be forever imprinted with the brand name, "Nottravis Planner". A small token of my appreciation. =D

I just noticed that! You cheeky little sod! :D *is dying of embarrassment!*

Beautifully done tho, full credit for making something so easy on the eye. Makes my PDA look decidedly 8-bit in comparison!
*is now running with the line that her simple retro design is -absolutely- a design choice and not because she has no idea what's she doing* ;)

Interestingly enough, I think the people of the United States are the only ones on this continent that refer to themselves as Americans. (I could be wrong and this observation is only now occurring to me). But people from Canada call themselves Canadians. Then there are Mexicans, Chileans, Brazilians, Colombians, etc. But when you say someone is an American, you assume they are from the United States of America. Food for thought.

I didn't create these cultural inconsistencies, I just live with them. Cheers.

Nonsense! Yours is perfect and fits wonderfully with your theme! Apples and Oranges my dear girl, apples and oranges.

I also wanted to go a bit retro in my own way and instead of having a cell phone mock up decided to go with the late eighties to mid nineties "filo-fax" style planner. (I figured I could fit more information on a two page spread than I could on a tiny cell phone screen).

And that we all take our name from an Italian map maker, Amerigo Vespucci. With no argument. Poor Columbus only gets one country, a city in Ohio and a now disputed National Holiday. We should all be Colombians! (Unless you want to say that we should all be Ericksons! Go vikings!)

if I recall then there were severall attempts to have the continent renamed into collumbia, the national image during the 19th century was even called that way (you know, the lady with the sword and the torch) before she was replaced by uncle sam

USA members are often a bit more than a little geo-centric (among other -centric things), unfortunately:

I always label someone from the USA with the full country name, abbreviation or something understood by my target audience (e.g., "The States" for friends from UK).

We really have no rightful claim to the "American" label as uniquely our country, IMHO.

But, as the Dev said, it's commonly used that way here - so, representing it with such usage in a game that includes people from the USA makes sense.

snigger , I know a Mexican guy who gives you when you talk about "americans"a stern answer "north americans "
but it's like talking about England while meaning great Britain . or say Holland when you mean the Netherlands or a belgian who only identifies as a "Vlaming "

America is the country, if you are referring to one of the other regions you have other terms, such as North America, South America, Central America, or The Americas. The country is the only one that uses it that way, partly because it's the only country with the word in it's name.

And it could have had the more curious name of Tiptona (or Tiptonia), but they decided to adopt the name of Columbus:
