Patreon is very clear in their policy that they do not give refunds to dissatisfied customers. You can't sue them, it is a platform for supporting artists, it is not a marketplace where you give money in exchange for a product. Any loss of money due to failure to live up to promises made by a creator to supporters is a risk you accept when you agree to give them money. Per patreon's own "guidelines":

"Creators are entirely responsible for benefits and content distribution. It is not a violation of our terms if a creator doesn't deliver benefits or they're not as expected. "

Emphasis Patreon's.

Also:

"As an artist, you deserve all the support you get from your patrons! Your community deserves all the wonderful work you put into your Patreon page. They deserve your honest fulfillment of all the work you promised them as rewards. Failing that, they deserve an honest statement about why a given reward is late along with appropriate apologies. Patreon will not issue refunds to dissatisfied patrons, but it’s important to note that they do contact us. They do, also, take to social media to share their grievances. "

TL/DR: If you are unhappy, your only recourse is to pull your money and complain on social media. You can't sue anybody, because you agreed to these terms when you agreed to send them your money.

So, did mods cave in or did Gumdrop actually abandon his game?
Mods caved in. Gumdrop is not going to announce that he abandoned the game as long as money's flowing in.

It apparently forced Gumdrop's hand in that he frantically started to put an update together just to prove he's doing something, but I hope it'll take more than an apology and a sorry excuse to turn the tag around.

How long does it have an abandoned tag? I thought it was abandoned years ago. xD Now that I look at the patreon, he is still active there, that's why it didn't recieve the tag earlier. And gets so much money for just updating his Patreon page and making a render from time to time. Damn, that's a total gravy train. xD Getting thousands a month for doing nothing. xD I am so envious. xD I want to be payed by thirsty men for being lazy and manipulative too, selling them a promise of sex. xD Damn, I thought Twitch THOTs were the only ones doing this. xD

I haven't been on this thread for 2 years, but today I accidentally stepped in here and got overwhelmed by all the memes. Really funny, guys. I would like to say that more threads need memes like this, but I don't want any of the other games to end up like this one, so no. xD I read through it and am amazed somebody would still pay him to encourage this behavior. I wish people would pull their support sooner so he would realize he can't keep going like this and step up, but he can still do this, because he seems to be good at manipulating his supporters.

This game had so much potential...
No.
It had a good backstory. It focused on vanilla content. It promised a steady and relaxed pace.
I imagine everyone who supported gumdrop expected that he would finish the game, all three acts, in three years.
As it turns out, it promised a lot and delivered nothing.

A lot of games have even more potential. If some developers got even just a fraction of what gumdrop had been pledged, they would probably turn out more and better games that we could get from gumdrop.

I don't understand how great games that have frequent updates make 1000 or even less a month but somehow Gumdrop stays at over 8000 even though no update in almost 1 and a half year or has it even been more time than that? sometime I think it must be fake right?
It's a tricky question, and honestly, it's hard to tell. I found out something when my card expired and I didn't get around to updating payment details, but that was several years ago.
Namely, my pledge was still visible and counted towards the total, even though I wasn't charged for that given month and I couldn't see patron-only content. That was before patreon introduced up-front payments. You could literally open up fifty accounts with fake payment details, pledge $100 to a creator, and voila, you have 50 supporters pledging $5,000 to a creator. Even if their payments bounced, they were still counted towards the total.
When up-front payments were introduced, it was trickier, your payment needed to be successfully processed, but then even if it expired, you were still counted.
It's entirely possible that, out of those 900 supporters, a number of them is deceased, quit patreon or lapsed by not updating their payment details, but it's impossible to tell.

However, we might infer something from response activity. Recent posts:

Before releasing Act 1 Part 9 in March 2018, a developer update just prior to the release would get 53 comments and 26 likes. Final previews in February would get 44 comments and 27 likes.

The trick is, it's hard to find an equivalent or similar period because the updates were fairly regular (like every 2-3 months), so there was no time to get impatient. What's funny is that there were hardly any pinup posts or polls. It's fairly easy to find the moment in time when gumdrop switched from active development and engaging with his followers (including public posts) to milking: no more public posts, a lot of polls, many pinups and supposed previews -- around April 2018 when patreon suspended gumdrop's page (then and several times thereafter).

F95 mods are wrong. Grumdrop has already denied these ridiculous rumors. Someone should report the OP to remove this incorrect tag.

For all DF fans: GD has good news for you.
Gumdrop said:
Good News!
Or should I say excellent news! :D
First of all, I want to thank everyone that sent us their suggested animators. Thankfully, finding another...

You only have to pay one dollar to read the entire post. I think it's worth it.

He isn't getting another dollar from me. And though I can't read the post, I'm betting it isn't episode 2 or any new gameplay...but certainly some kind of promise...which will be broken.

Just realized I could expound on the topic of how many patrons gumdrop has. Just like you cannot view a post, you also cannot comment on it, nor like it, unless you have an active subscription. And you can like a post only once. Based on the data I provided, this means that, back in December, gumdrop had at least 7 $20 supporters, at least 4 $5 supports and at least 6 $1 supporters.
As of January, he has at least 4 $20 supporters, at least 1 $12 supporter, at least 3 $5 supporters and at least 5 $1 supporters, which adds up to at least $112 collected for January for doing nothing.

Very likely this dude is aware of the scam now. He takes money from a scammer while taking over a year to produce some animation, while he keeps being paid by gumdrop (with scammed money), who in turn keeps pretending to find something wrong with them to keep the scam going for as long as possible. A scheme that gives gumdrop more time to extend the scam.

Since gumdrop has zero work done at all (he did absolutely nothing for the last 2 years and the project is most likely abandoned), he needs increasingly ridiculous excuses and delays to cover up that fact. This scummy dude who takes money and pretends not to know what's going on as he serves as such excuse is the perfect match for a scammer. Problem is, the charade is so dumb that gumdrop is pretending to look for an animator while this dude claims he is still working on them.

Think about the infinite stupidity of his patrons: they are paying a scammer to commission animations for them, and, in turn, the scammer claims that the commissioned work that takes almost a year and counting to complete is proof he is working. Imagine believing such an embarrassing scammer who took 8k per month for over 2 years only to be unable to present evidence of any work done other than commissioned work (paid with their own money no less , the rest going directly to the scammer's pockets). Other people have literally started their games, learned to animate and then finished their games in that time span.

Remember when Joshua Tree vehemently defended fatcat? isn't it extremely suspicious how the topics that enraged Joshua the most and which he most vehemently defended ended up exposing this as a shameless scam the most.
