Just wanted to drop by again and post again my money laundering explanation for this game.
Being a creator in Patreon means that you are paid for your services.
Being a developer and making a game makes you a creator.
Being paid for the service of creating a game is legal.
So, what better way for someone who needs to justify for tax purposes X money / X payments from X people than this and just bank them clean and sweet?
I am not suggesting that he is doing this, but IT COULD be a possible explanation.
In either case, this game and this whole situation is a farse.
Yeah but that wouldn't really fly. Because... When need to file your tax papers. You have to state how much income you got from like Patreon in this case. And for laundry money to work. It kinda need to be some sort of walk in venue or a business where you could set up a lot of fake users/customers. Which in both cases doesn't apply for Patreon, unless you suggest Patreon is in on the scheme too.
Also, no, being a creator on patreon doesn't mean you are paid for your service. It mean's you can chose to support a creator. No strings attached other than what a creator promise if at all. In case of Gumdrop, he have a hard time hold his own dead lines and such. But that doesn't mean a breach of contract, just he broke his word. If you don't provide, you lose support. People vote with their money in that regard. There is nothing in the Patreon guide lines that state you are buying something or subscribing to a service when you support a creator. Look at streamers that use patreon etc, you don't really buy a service. And you can still watch their streams, even though you might get some shout outs and interaction with the streamer you wouldn't else being a patreon.
