Can you imagine the bureaucratic hoops you'd have to jump through, the ethics boards, etc., let alone fighting for a funding grant, to get permission to do that sort of experiment? It's a great conceit for a game, but would be a nightmare in reality. Basically criminal.
Oh it's definitely not something that could ever happen now, maybe in the 40s when rules and regs were a little less tight. But as you said great concept for a game ad that's indeed what we have here. There's no reason why in the world where Elmwood is set they are bothered about ethics and fairness
Well, other than the rest of the game is very closely bound to reality in general and the UK in particular. There's a bit of handwavy porn logic, and the mentioned conceit, but everything else is trying to be grounded. Imo.
Oh I don't deny the fact the game is at least grounded in a sense of realism. To be fair most actually are. There is always a bit of handwaving here and there, and most fictional stories almost always have an element of the suspension of disbelief (there's one in this game right at start, there's no chance the police are not getting called if a half naked man is found in a girls house)
There is a bug in Ch. 3 that forces MC to go on the date with Paris, even if player chooses not to do anything with her. I purposefully avoided her due to her friend association group that has characters that I want nothing to do with, but the date still happened without any scenes explaining why.
It's unlikely to affect anything going forward, but there's a typo in the end of episode summary (
e3debrief) that means it won't acknowledge if the MC made both Tasha and Ashley reach climax during the massage: if "I made them cum simulataneously!" in t_choice:
