Could it be that the artist got hurt due to lots of work in a short time and the drawing hand had enough? Seems to happen quite often nowadays, understandable ofc. The human body might be a survival expert and can endure lots of pain and stress but each of them has its limits.^^
Based on previous experiences with other artists, I've found that artists frequently have to work on multiple projects and/or commissions to make ends meat. Avante also had different IRL stuff to deal with, which delayed artwork further.

Wait this game is abandoned? Didn’t see that coming
Game is still being worked on, but from what I heard the rule on F95 is if there is no update on a game for more than a year, it's considered "abandoned".

I have been writing scenes for the next build, and artwork is still being completed as well. So while on F95 is says it's "abandoned" it is still very much in development.

IMO, this rule is applied selectively, or at least it is used on more active threads (or when someone reports a thread as abandoned.). Like I have just found 7 games with no update since 2 years on one page (251 to be exact) of the latest updates with items per page set to 30.

If you're all the way back on page 251(!) of the latest updates you have to assume that any game that's not completed is abandoned. The lacking tag is probably due to nobody giving enough of a shit to keep track of their progress.

How 'deep' is the Nifar Forrest? My group is leveled up to lv12 now while fighting in the forrest. I climed up now to stage9 and somehow I get more and more puzzled, because maybe something went wrong with my group!

HydroHexxx any status on the update or the artist still works in slower than glacial pace ?
Artwork is coming in very slowly, but I am continuing to make progress on the writing! Some supporters have suggested doing a poll on Patreon to decide whether updates should come out in chunks to speed up the release time. I'm still mulling over the possibility, but right now I want to have enough content ready for any update to be satisfying.

Is IA2 more popular than Erolon with your supporters?
It is, but I have a feeling Erolon would have also been popular if the updates remained consistent. With IA2 we're able to work directly on the artwork thanks to it being 3D models, so our schedule is more consistent with releases as a result.

That's why if we were ever to do another game similar to Erolon, we'd absolutely use 3D models to avoid the huge delays.

Having bigger updates instead of rushed ones with less content/finished elements for the sake of a shorter release time is better. Personally I'm not a big fan if stuff stops in the middle due to time restriction. Ofc that's sometimes the nature with WIP stuff but reducing it to a minimum is better than going overboard with it.

It also puts some stress away when it comes to what the supporters might think when they see half finished quests. That damn balance between working productive and the happiness of the customer can have quite the impact on the mental health and you guys should work with fun, not with stress and fear. =3

Ya know, I haven’t visited the discord in a long time, but way back then the art was delayed due to complicated circumstances and I definitely said that everyone was having complicated circumstances. Understandable.

I’m not…gonna be too harsh on your artist but to be delayed this severely, is kinda insane. With throw kinda commission work, it gets to the point where own or both sides need to cut their losses

but I don’t know the full situation obviously. It’s very difficult and complicated. You could always just hold out as long as it takes.

Starting a “side project” that kinda became a main project was a smart move.

It's a shame that the artist caused such problems, because man I just can't get into games that use 3d models like IA2. They just look so bad compared to even relatively mediocre drawn art. You gotta do what you gotta do, but it is a disappointment to me.

I know this game is going to be finished with drawn art but I probably won't be following any future games if they're all gonna be 3d modeled.

I think 3D art gets a bad rap because of how many games don't put in the effort into making good models. A perfect example of this is how many adult games use the same generic Daz Studio models, (which are not high quality) and then when they make facial expressions they turn up the dials all the way causing really bad uncanny valley. It's unpleasant to look at, and that I can understand not wanting to look at it.

What DrX and I have done is some preliminary tests with Daz regarding shaders and stylizing along with using much higher quality 3D models and have created some great early test results so far.

Of course I do love hand drawn art, and I will continue to enjoy it. But when it comes to the game development cycle DrX and I follow, working with artists over the past several years has proven to be a downright frustrating and stressful experience.
