well it's not easy to finish when you can do only 3 to 4 render in a month and you have to choose between wotrking on the update and milking money
He has been doing only wallpapers for years. If the people who pay/support him doesn't know any better or doesn't do any research I think it's safe to say that the problem is their own.
This makes me angry and sad, because I really enjoyed this game and still really want to see more of this story, it was one of my favs, Henissart's renders are just sublime. If I remember correctly, he was at one time pulling in around 3500 a month from patreon donations (when the game had actually been in active development) and now he is down to around 200 a month. Even if Hennis did a 180 on his updates and released another huge update im not sure he could ever atain the donation levels that he once had. So I really dont see why he would ever pick it up again.
You know what they say: “Hope dies last”. That's what scammers like this developer take advantage of. On the good side, I would from the patreon side close the pages of those devs who blatantly lie to their subscribers and do nothing. For example, set a deadline - if within 1.5 years the next update has not appeared on the account of a conditional dev, then he is unable to fulfill his obligations and should be kicked in the ass.

Sadly I think none of the above, I think the Dev felt he deserved more for his work than the 2500 or so a month he was making at this games peak on patreon. He felt he deserved more because of all the piracy on sites like this. He made multiple posts griping about such things. So I believe he ultimately willfully and deliberately abandoned the game but keeps up the monthly wallpaper on patreon so he can pretend like he is still working on it and make a couple hundred dollars off the people that still subscribe.
I agree with you, but based on his posts I dont think the dev saw it that way.
Those who have the desire and ability to support the author (creator) - will ALWAYS find a way to do it.
