I wish we could do more for our boy. It is the same as in OIAL where I really wished The MC did more than just cash in favours
Honestly, he gets his moments to shine and you're basically making sure he gets his with the Elden Ring Que-- I mean, Mikaela. So it's not like he's just dropped off and forgotten. So long as Chang the Conquerer gets his Conquest, it should be good.

If there is one thing you could kinda complain about in Eternum as far as the characters go, its that Chang really is nothing more than a comic relieve so far it generally feels kinda...tacked on. Like he was there right at the beginning of the game and it felt like he would be a lot more important than (at least so far) ended up being.

Yeah, he came up with the plan for the heist but even then we were more told that he made the plan, we didn't really see it.

Then again: I rather have more screen time for the girls then for Chang, to be honest. :BootyTime:

Well, he's in the gym scene, he's used for cutting off Dahlia's route if you tell him the password and break trust (then again, penetrating dat ass is a deal breaker too...), and he does ask you about gifts for his girl. He's on his own journey and pops up.

And compared to Stabby Mike being so Deus Ex in OIAL, I'll take a good friend doing their own thing in the background than what was going on there.

well the only complaint I have with Eternum is comedy, Caribdis is many things, but a comedian is not one of them. :HideThePain:

Eternum is unironically one of the funniest games I ever played...and I don't mean one of the funniest porn games or VNs, I mean one of the funniest games.

He does stuff here and there, but you could cut him out of the game without losing much apart from a lot of laughs.

I somewhat agree to this only because the story is thematically darker and a bit more serious compared to his last game, which could make some of the slapstick-level comedy feel out of place if you value consistency.

But I don't agree that Cari can't do humor. I laughed more than I should in OIAL, but I feel that the jokes land there more due to how the humor fits well with the Goonies-style tone of the story (though I suppose the more caricature-esque designs thanks to the HS1 engine also help with that).

That's not to say Eternum doesn't have moments where the humor lands, because there definitely are moments like that, at least in my opinion (e.g. Mr. Hernandez's threats, Chang's drama spiel if you reject him as a bestest friend, the Day of the Dead hot taco moment).

He does stuff here and there, but you could cut him out of the game without losing much apart from a lot of laughs.
I don't think the Heist would go as smooth as it did without Chang. Also that event feels like foreshadowing to him eventually becoming the team's battle planner, which would be crucial if they ever decide to, I dunno, storm or infiltrate a few well-guarded places later on in the story? Like Ulysses HQ or Acheron, perhaps?

I found tons of larger and smaller jokes everywhere:

i swear to God I tried to laugh but I couldn't, the same thing happened to me with his first game too I couldn't laugh, which is weird because I'm a person who laughs easily.

nope, I still don't laugh at those moments, it's partly my fault. the kind of jokes I enjoy are in very bad taste and if I post them on the forum I'll probably get banned.

That's probably cause this type of humor doesn't reach you, I can teel you that Caribdis can make Comedy and I say this as someone who find comedy rarely enjoyable as it can easily kill the seriousness in a story.
Comedy might be the most difficult thing to add to your game/movie/etc... as it's deeply personnal and subjective and I think Caribdis does well in that field (y)

The game has made me chuckle and laugh on way more than one occasion, saying he can't do humor is pretty out there. I think Eternum has some great humor mixed in an otherwise darker, more serious themed game.

However, if you're looking for an incredibly humorous game, where the humor is very much a persistently amazing factor throughout, then if you haven't already try Projekt: Passion. Now that game had me laughing/chuckling a lot, while still being able to deliver dramatic, serious, more emotional moments as well when it needs to.

Anyways, I think Eternum has the perfect blend of humor mixed in, it's not meant to be at the forefront, and it's not meant to be a selling point of the game, it's more like icing on the already amazing cake.

I mean you don't have to force yourself if you don't find it funny. It's just that a lot of people do cite the humor as a plus so maybe the jokes are right up their alley more so than in your case.

Kind of disagree? As Dorf is saying, he's an apt team battle planner, but is seen as a goofy sidekick. One thing that Cari is pushing immensely is that every person has their wheelhouse and someone capable of using ALL their talents to pull a heist is an incredible thing.

For him to get a girl off to the side that has him out of the running for the main LIs is what Cari is going for while ensuring he's close enough to be capable of seeing some of what the MC is missing and being a loyal friend over the Stabby Standard.

Again: The problem is, that we more get told about him having planned it than we really see him planning it (not sure, how you would even do that, but there is a reason I'm not developing my own games, I guess).

For the 1st character outside of Orion to even say anything in the game (if you don't count the introduction with Annie and Dalia), his role overall is just feels pretty small. But again: It's okay if that means more screen time for the girls.

I think the humor is more subtle than ya'll are seeing it to be.

Like, you trust Chang and he gets an answer wrong while you trust others and they give the right answer. That sets up that when Chang is FINALLY right on the last one, you still put trust into him.

There's also change wearing the breed me shirt and you remind him.

Or Dahlia having a bad day.

Or Nova hitting you with a frying pan and being this hyper active pixie girl.

Or this:

Sometimes, the humor is in the situation, not necessarily the slapstick.
