Nope, it wasn't avoidable, but they were few scenes so not really an issue ( of course from point of view).
Here I don't know what will happen, it depends on Caribdis, but I think the threesomes are still far in the game.

Only as far as not showing them conceiving kids during the course of the story is concerned. Knowing her backstory, she'll want to take after her Mee-maw and have grandkids of her own, so she'll bound to ask Orion for kids eventually.In my case, none of them will have kids anyways.
