Lets hope computational capabilities(Processing power)of everybody leapfrog into the super computer esque level in the next 10 years in.Hopefully then the developers take less time to finish rendering and the only time that is spent will be to design art and everything else just takes a minimal time to process. Then people like DPC and CARI can give us updates as quick as they can.I am following discussions on both BAD nd Eternum and came to the conclusion that to get faster updates the only room for improvement will be a faster computer. To purchase a state of art computer the dev needs money which in turn means he needs to have more patrons and so on but the problem is only the devs whose games are hits will have patrons whereas somedevs who make good games cant find enough patrons to upgrade to the latest tech.So A general Quantum leap in computational power for everyone would make wonders in the field of AVNs.
While I tried to keep out of this horrible discussion, this is plain out wrong. A project has usually a defined end scenario or end date and that usually means technology keeps advancing while working on it. If every project in the world would act like you describe, we wouldnt have a single car , plane etc to use. A project is usually based on a defined platform, technology etc. It is one reason we see so many revamps of games as the games are finished and just have to be remastered. Just to remaster up to a new standard is a project in itself.

This is not meant as a general comment for the update discussion but a direct response to your tech love argument.

I mean, okay, DPC and others who use Daz3D could benefit from that.

But Cari?

Man, if you know anything about Honey Select 2 (the software he uses for renders), you would not say that. That thing is so unoptimized that rigs that can run modern AAA games at 4k ultra settings still struggle to run a steady 30fps on it. Modern cards hate it (I've seen talk on the Illusion Discord that a 4090 struggles on it...A FUCKING 4090), it relies heavily on SINGLE core performance so multicore is useless, and trying to keep it stable is like a long ass game of jenga especially when you start installing mods on it.

The only good thing about it is that from what I've read you can essentially buy a midrange build (tho a card with high vram is still welcome if you want to use texture mods) and still get it to run okay-ish. You just have to have the patience and the nerves of steel of a Bethesda mod addict if you want to bring it to its full potential.

For BADIK, yes hardware quality makes a big difference but Eternum uses HS2 so even if Caribdis is rendering at 8K (unlikely!), his PC should be capable of outputting renders in 1-2 seconds because the HS2 graphics engine is a real-time render (i.e. fast as possible, even at the cost of quality). Animations are another story but even those are on the order of 20-30 min depending on the duration of the anim rather than multiple hours or days as is likely the case with BADIK. This coupled with the fact that Eternum doesn't have an extreme amount of animations (iirc on the order of 1-2 dozen per update?) means that the primary bottlenecks in development for Eternum are:
1) setting up renders (lots of manual work involved in positioning the characters, camera, doing lighting, etc. and HS2 is quite primitive so there's an extra layer of tedium involved there)
2) writing

...I mean the sentiment that this game has too many LI's sounds valid, but...

...yeaaah, you might wanna look elsewhere if all you want is more lewds.
Don't get me wrong, I certainly do not want a meaningless fuck fest. Pornhub exists.

All I'm saying is that if you're going to make a porn game, you should make a porn game. You can do so with characters and story being important and deep. You can have a slow burn, you can take the time, but you can also make it so the LIs have more that 3 scenes, with 1-2 of those scenes being teasing with no actual sex. It just seems to me like this game is close to done. Unless the game is much longer, or the Dev jams in a ton of scenes with each girl in the back half of the game, this game will not meet standards set by other big titles. Nothing necessarily wrong with that... If your dream is to make a 2-3 star porn game, great, dream achieved.

I love the serious game part of this game. Take out what little porn there is and slap it on a non-adult site, It'd be 5 stars. Problem is, it's a porn game. There are expectations set not only by the dev's previous game, but by all the other big successful games. Imagine if in Once in a Lifetime, you only got 2 scenes with each LI, and one was just teasing. It would still be a great regular VN, but a terrible porn game.

I believe that one statement pretty much sums up the misconception of many including yourself: Adult Game does not mean Porn Game. There are gradients like with anything else in life. 'Adult' ranges from almost innocent romantic stuff all the way up to steamy things like xx shades of something. As there is Soft Porn which is still age restricted.

Whenever I see people complain when there's not enough sex scenes in an adult game, or when an AVN dev tries to make their game less like a porn game and more like an adult game, I wonder if they're the type of people to search "Game of Thrones sex scenes" online without watching the show

You must be new to the genre if you think that AVNs should maximize sexual content to count itself as an AVN.

Nevermind the fact that Japanese AVNs or Eroges from the early 2000s era and before focus a lot more on the story with very - and I mean VERY - few sex scenes in them. Games like the original version of "Fate/Stay Night" with the uncut sex scenes, "G-Senjou no Maou," and "Full Metal Daemon: Muramasa" come to mind.

Also no, this game is not close to being done.
