I have felt that way for only one game - its called the last sovereign. Probably the only porn game I played where I feel like the addition of sex scenes/harem themes actually hurts the game. It could easily pass for a really well done indie rpg and I am unable to recommend it to friends because of adult content.
For VNs like this though I dont think I have ever felt this way - I dont like mindless fuckfests but I think constant blueballing is just as bad. Slow burns are fine and there are many of them I like but past a certain point it becomes too much for me and if there is not going to be any adult content I would rather just read a good novel just as with mindless fuckfests I would rather just watch porn.

In VNs I much prefer slow burns because when the hscenes happen its a lot more enjoyable, if I just wanted to be spammed with 4 hscenes per release I would rather just go watch animations from hentai artists which are usually much higher quality.
You beat me too it. I was going to jump in and mention the last soveriegn myself. And I'm totally in agreement that The Last Sovereign makes me desperately want to recommend it to my friends for amazing story and plot reasons, and then I found myself brought up short by the fact that it has porn content, and our fucking leftover morals regarding sex from the insane puritans makes it too awkward to do so.

In most Japanese VN's and games i tend to feel the same way and end up just skipping the sex scenes entirely just to focus on the plot, because generally the they are really bad and long, they're basically just the text describing the sex, 30 minutes of moaning and 2 arts with some variation.
Yup, The Last Sovereign so fucking good, it's by far the best porn game i ever played and one of the best games that i ever played in general.

To anybody who heard my enthusiasm over the story of The Last Sovereign, and wants to give it a shot here's some advice:
Use a walkthrough. Seriously, there's a lot going on, and you can easily miss stuff or get confused.
If you don't really care too much for the RPG style mechanics, use an RPGmaker save editor and give yourself a little boost when you need it. I say a little boost, because the game occasionally has checks, and will give you worse results than what your stats say you should get if you are blatantly over leveled, or buy something that is literally impossible to buy at that stage of the game.
You don't have to worry too much about levels, because there are no random encounters, and no way to farm xp. The game is balanced based on these limited encounters, and so long as you understand basics of the combat system, you will be fine.

For me it depends on how slow we are talking about. If the game is in development for > 6 months to a year and there are no adult scenes its a no thank you for me. I refuse to play slow burn games that are still ongoing because I think they have a very high probability of being abandoned. The wait is worth it only if there is a payoff at the end and in most cases you are never going to get to see that payoff. I am not going to wait 2 years just to see a render of a boob. I also dont like games that are slow for the sake of being slow - I can understand things like teenage romance take time to setup properly but when we are dealing with older characters that act like kids and beat around the bush I find it annoying. The second highest rated game currently on this website after Eternum is Pale Carnations which is set in a brothel - if that was a slow burn (its not) it would make 0 sense to me given the setting. So it also depends on the setting and the characters. Without the sex scenes an adult VN is the equivalent of a romance fanfic. If plain romance is what I wanted to read I would watch a romance based movie or tv show or just read a book - you can find content that is 100x better in those mediums.
I think a VN such as this needs to find the right balance between adult content and character development. I think this VN is doing a fairly decent job of it so far - versions 1-3 were a bit slow and had good buildup and I expect things to pick up in the next few updates similar to once in a lifetime.
Same - its a real shame that it is a porn game. I would have loved to share it with some friends.

Btw am I the only one that recognized Annie wearing 2B's outfit and weapons while Luna was wearing Triss Merigold's outfit? I find it weird that they dont even make a mention of it in game while they do mention stuff like Microsoft and Disney properties.

I maintain the belief that Eternum (in universe game) has rights to use, if not outright owns, other video game stuff. Similar to Disney buying Pixar and Marvel, Ulysses has perhaps bought the rights, if not outright bought the company, to other IPs such as Witcher, Destiney, etc. Seeing something from the Witcher in Eternum is no more worth mentioning than seeing a Captain America Shield on a shirt in the Dr. Strange Movie.I mean, kinda? That is just my working theory for the in-universe reason.
It is also possible that the assets just are what they are and Caribdis just doesn't want to make a big deal out of it just because he liked an outfit and used it for that scene.
