I'm of the same camp. One of the best (if not the best) updates so far for me (even though it wiped 3/4ths of my theory board :HideThePain:).

And yes, I also liked the Stanley Parable section because I thought it was a creative way to showcase Orion's fears while giving him that final push to make him commit to his relationships. Plus it's also the one time his game dev/programmer background gets referenced again, which is something I thought Cari kinda forgot. :HideThePain:
You can't forget all the LI's confess their love. Oh man, they're so lovely.
Btw, I'm looking forward how Cari will do this for Penny now that I think about it.

Sometimes, while I'm creeping in here, I'm reminded why I usually avoid being too active:
Interesting. I’m 100% opposite. I though 7 was weak and 8 was a huge improvement, and I though the sex scenes is 8 were top tier while 7 was just mediocre. To each their own. Cheers.
Making jokes and discussing theory is fun, but then there's always the risk to stumble upon this kind of remark which painfully showcase how spoiled people can get.

That someone can call these scenes "mediocre" is beyond me.
Yes, 0.8's scenes are even better. But no, these scenes are NOT mediocre.

To everyone reading this, please stop being spoiled and learn to enjoy quality.
It's for your own good, you'll be happier in life.

Yeah fair enough. I think the clone isn't you, so therefore it is cheating. You think the clone is you, so therefore it is not.

We just have fundamentally different views of what clones are I think. We simply can't see eye to eye on this issue because of that. Like you said, "agree to disagree." Thank you for the conversation.
please dont put words in my mouth, i did not say "i think clone is me". i was explaining that the artifact we get in eternum does not make clones and that through process it either create multiple versions of same guy (like naruto's shadow clone jutsu. they are not simple clones who once they die they vanish into non-existence. every shadow clone of naruto is actually a piece of him that gains experience and then when they disappear all the experience goes to original guy as if they originally experience it)
if orion splits in 2 and both versions do 100 pushups when they combine orion will feel like he just did 200 pushups. if orion gets cloned and they both do pushups even if you kill the clone orion will only feel like he did 100 pushups. that is very big difference. that is why i said its either both of them are orion or neither of them are orion. i never said "i think my clone is me"

what do yall honestly think of Thanatos?

1735469853194.png

Cause honestly for me his character is kinda getting stale and boring already. I get his supposed to be this intimidating and looming threat for Orion and the gang but I'm just at a point where every time he's mentioned or appears on screen I groan and say "ah shit, here we go again" in a disappointed tone. Learning his backstory in that one update was cool and all but he's a one trick pony for me as of now. He just appears, does some OP shit, kill someone (usually Jerry) then dips over and over again. Lastly, idk but the more I see him, he's kinda looking like a bargain bin yoshimitsu cosplay.

Don't know if my take is controversial or not, feel free to roast me if it is but Im just meh to this guy XD

Honestly, I think we still don't know enough about him. I mean, we know he's the biggest threat the characters have found so far and we've discovered his origin, but we still don't know what really is his motivation and what he's trying to achieve. And, more importantly, he's clearly NOT the big bad. I'm convinced that Thanatos could (will) eventually become an ally if his objetives align with the MC's. But we're still not at that point of the story.
And, yeah, I understand why you can feel that subplot a little stale -but also, it's the first time the MC has talked with him about his origin, even if that haven't worked well, so, maybe it doesn't look like it, but the subplot is developing. Let's give it time.

Personally I find him okay. Kind of there to balance out the mustache-twirling antagonists like the Founder and William. Plus I think he pretty much embodies what would happen to Orion if he went off the deep end and completely got absorbed with the gem hunt, so looking at it from that perspective he's pretty much the latter's natural rival.

And, more importantly, he's clearly NOT the big bad. I'm convinced that Thanatos could (will) eventually become an ally if his objetives align with the MC's.
That would depend on what his objectives are. For all we know he may want to perpetuate the current state of Eternum (going by his "strength" talk back in Ogygia), which would make him an unlikely ally to William but puts him at odds with Idriel and Orion (who want to break its current state) as well as the Founder (whose quest for the gems is implied by Idriel and William to be a bad thing).

I want to know how he manages to find his targets, especially when it's Orion tping in with his real body.

He does his job as a the evil antagonist with a somewhat unknown motivation behind him. I guess at some point we will learn more about him. Right now he is essentially the Darth Vader of the story (Darth Vader from The Last Hope that is). Unbeatable and just egoistic and evil, trying to collect all gems seemingly just to become a kind of god.

And for Orion and the girls it is about growing powerful enough to be able to beat him in the end.

section?
I really enjoyed it in isolation (but I was familiar with and really enjoyed the original game), but I think including it in the pirate server made the already very long story arc too long. I would've moved it to the desert server (Orion drinking some tea at the bazaar or something like that).

I wanna know how he escaped the server where we found Calypso and where we left him. Because I think that might be quite revealing...
there is a trope in anime where "sword that can cut through everything" can have some busted powers depending on imagination of user. so for example cutting through dimensions, cutting cross servers, cutting reality. it feels like a copout plot device but its posibility

Funfact I discovered when comparing the code from 0.7 and 0.8.
Did you know Alex's coach was a guy before ?

Are you interest of some other change Caribdis made to the dialogue like that ?
Per exemple in 0.7 all the dialogue said "The 10 gems" and in 0.8 that change for "The ten gems".

Well, you need a big bad in every story with stakes but Thanatos is not a great big bad.
It jumps between "he's a god!" and "MC could kill him with one arm tied behind his back" too frequently.

I honestly still think he's a metaphor for sweaty powergamers. RGB lighting and all.

thanatos is "on the nose" pay to win nolifer. with fancy cosmetic armour and blade that emits lightning which just screams pay to win. i like how cari used "nolifer" aspect as literal plot twist in the game as it turns out thanatos indeed has no life (he is dead outside the game) And just like how p2w players are divided between rich spoiled brats who waste money on game they never get good at so they look all cool but are still so shit any average player still destroy them, and legit nolifers who spend 24/7 in game, know every combo, every meta, every exploitable glitch... you mix those two together and get thanatos :p
instead of getting something in between you get something from both extremes
