Yeah, I definitely remember it mostly being optional as well. And nowhere near as bad as it is with some devs where you can clearly tell it's the dev's main fetish.

I think the update takes exactly the right amount of time, namely the time until it is finished.

I'm pretty sure that's how it's played out so far. I can't recall a single non-optional sex scene. I even considered adding in an easter egg for the insane players who decide to play the entire game without ever fucking. Maybe a massive orgy or something who knows.
