Somehow in the last 6+ years on F95zone I've never heard of this game. It sounds as if there are some unhappy feelings about it.
Nevertheless, I'd like to ask: is it worth playing in its current state?

It's was not a bad game, but the current state is "abandoned". The unhappy feelings are due to the abandoned tag being removed just because it got an event "update".

woah I forgot this even existed, I look and see its one of those BS holiday event updates. The game isn't even finished I don't get why devs even waste time on these types of updates instead of working towards finishing the actual main storyline, THEN making holidays specials after everything is officially finished. It just wastes time, we don't live forever.

The main reason to focus on "Holiday Special" content instead of the main game is because it's way easier. So you can crap out an "update" and keep interest in your Patreon or encourage more people to sign up for it in the hopes that you're coming back to work on the main game again, when in reality you have no interest in (or just lack the ability to) ever finishing the main game.
Basically, it's a milker tactic.
It's not terrible. It's a fun little playthrough and it feels like it has a ton of potential. That's part of why the negativity is so strong against it - a lot of people were really invested in the game and then it just sort of died. So they're mad at what we could have gotten, but didn't.
As it is now, it feels like the first chapter of a story. It sets stuff up, introduces most of the main characters, you get a mostly self-contained story arc, and then you get to the end where the story is clearly moving on to the next part of the story when you get your TO BE CONTINUED.
The easiest metaphor I can think of for it is imagine you were watching Lord of the Rings, and you watched the first part of Fellowship of the Ring. All the stuff happens, the Hobbits get to Rivendell, Elrond's Council, the Fellowship is formed and ready to set out on their quest... and then the story just ends.
I'd still recommend it to someone to play regardless - it's very well written and it looks good art-wise. Especially since if you're here you're going to be playing it for free anyway. Just make sure you know going in that there's never going to be a real ending to the story and that you're okay with that, and you should be fine.

This was a rly, REALY, good game, you cant find many trap games where you aren't one out there, it is sad it got 2~3 years without an update; Hopefully the halloween special give DEV some steam to pick this up again and continue
People are pissed that development time was spent on specials. The reason people are actually pissed at all, is because Exiles is a genuinely great AVN. Seasonal specials are always a waste of development time. Always. Out of the dozens of AVNs I've played, many have had seasonal special updates, and none of them actually make the AVN better as a whole. The only seasonal special I can think of that was actually good at all is Summertime Saga with their Halloween special, but that's because the game itself is so compartmentalised that it didn't effect anything.
If the dev sees this, they should know that people are mad ONLY because they like Exiles so much. It's like watching someone build a house, and after a long time without seeing anything, the dude invites people over just to show the birdhouse he made. We wanna see the house built. We like the house.

If it's in the OP it has been scanned, it is the ones randomly posted in the thread you need to be more cautious with. Sometimes the ones in the OP slip through but it has only happened a couple of times.
Based on this you didn't play it then despite it being freely available here, did you? Because if you did, it would be quite clear that this is important to the story. Just because something has a label of "Halloween" or "Special" doesn't mean it has nothing to do with the plot, and it would be foolish to just come to that conclusion based on having played other people's games, because this is not other people's games. The original idea was to do a short little 300 render teaser to generate a bit of interest for newcomers, but I decided to make it a full blown chapter instead. It doesn't matter what anybody else in the thread says about it it, because here you're getting the info directly from me as to what the chapter is.
If you have played it and can't see the pretty obvious plot threads laced throughout, well, then that's on you. I didn't label it as a regular chapter since I've already established what chapter 4 is about, as well as the fact that the "main plot" involves the lamp, which this particular episode doesn't delve into. I also wanted it to be something that wasn't necessarily burdened by your previous relationships so people could just have a little bit of fun with it. Everything in this is canonical and the seeds for plot elements have been sown.
And for anybody arguing that this is some disingenuous cash grab I released just to remove the "abandoned" tag here, guess what? I'm not the one who posted it here, thus I had nothing to do with the removal of any tags. So take it up with the uploader. I don't work based on the rules of f95zone, oddly enough. I work on my own schedule and my own set of rules.
And just in case people want to constantly bring up my absence, it's because there are far more important things in life than making a porn game, surprising as that may seem. The singular death that started a downward spiral in my life ended up becoming three deaths, so excuse me if I don't really give much of a shit about whether or not people find my absence justified or not.
As for those of you that still enjoy the game, good, I'm happy. It's the end result of pulling myself out from absolute rock bottom and trying to maintain a sense of humor. I've always been quite clear that this is a hobby I work on in my free time. I've also always been quite clear that it's going to continue. And it has. That's not going to stop unless I suddenly die or something.
I played this update and found there some story after chapter 3. I also assumed that it was just a "Halloween Update" just by seeing multiple comments here and I would like to say sorry about it to you.
Please continue to make more chapters of this fun game and I really like the story.
