I guess he feels that F95 is safer than Patreon. I wonder if this will delay the next update of PE2. He insists that he will finish the project.

It's sad to hear the news that a developer who (unlike others) has always continued his stories to the end (even with some small bugs like those in this game) will leave us.
His brilliant stories had the power (at least for me) to involve me and make me identify with the various protagonists, leading me to make choices I would never have made in life (we've already talked about this in the past here), always leaving me with a bitter taste in my mouth because of the ending, which is almost never happy.
I hope he reconsiders and finds the time and way to gladden again people with his VNs again.:)

RIP the developer working on this in a format that allows them to continue *working on games of this genre*. It seems like they're going to keep working on AVNs in general, and I'm a big fan of NTR stuff.

That said, I'm not going to play anything even tangentially associated with Fooxied and Steps of Debauchery (even if they're only involved in a publishing capacity). It didn't seem necessary at the time to becoming involved together but that decision is making a little more sense now if this dev anticipated this recent update would be coming down the pipeline.

If this dev opts to self-publish or work with someone more reputable, I'll give it a shot. That said, I'll keep monitoring progress and I wish the dev peace in their personal life, working through whatever it is that's introducing complications. :-(

It's a bad thing in my opinion. I want to be careful to not "shit" talk another developer's product on a totally different developer & game's forum topic, but to answer your question: I don't like this publisher's efforts, capabilities, or responses to feedback on their AVN. And so I'm not happy to see them geting involved with other people's works.

Also, yes. SoD is also on Patreon but they are their own publisher. Publishers may determine or stipulate the distribution methods and available platforms of products they publish. If you make an AVN and don't work through a publisher, you get to pick where you host it and how people can obtain it.

If he's backed by a publisher, then there clearly was some kind of a contract signed. Maybe he receives a monthly stipend to produce AVNs, so he doesn't actually need the Patreon money to keep developing his AVNs + he gets more breathing room where he doesn't have to adhere to a "strict" monthly schedule.

If this is the case, then SadPepper should've just come out and say it. There's nothing wrong with admitting you burned out and need to take a step back to get your head back in the game. Especially between products.

As it stands, the silence and vagueness comes across as being butthurt about the latest project receiving negative reviews and criticism.

No, it just got a little bit of an UI overhaul as part of the publishing deal that SadPepper made. No more new content.

His current project is Pineapple Express 2, a rather disappointing "sequel" to the first, but given the latest news that game will be in development for a long time - if it manages to avoid development hell.

How can you say Pineapple Express 2 it is a disappointing sequel ? It has only had the initial launch. It will take time to develop plot and characters. I think the boat will bring PLENTY of misadventure to our couple ... no matter if you want cheating, NTR, or NTS . I think it started out fine. ditching Cornell I think was a good idea. He was not well liked in the first game. Going with more fresh faces is better.

I just think that the characters in Pineapple Express are just fucking stupid and way too unattractive, and there is unattractive in a good way, but these were just plain dumb and not interesting for me

I haven't played it yet but I did ctrl skip through it yeah it does seem like a different game from what little I did see. However I would still call it sequel because it's the same 2 main characters and to me a sequel can just be a different story / adventure doesn't need to involve all the character from the previous game.
