I was on the fence, because in the end it's your money, but I'm gonna say it anyway:
Don't give these people money, you are going to regret it.
I was their patron for 5 months and still own the game.
First off the game itself is basically a couple of connected rooms, where you and the other players are running their scenes. It's a kind of communal wankfest, Kekswichsen ohne Keks basically
So if you're not into in being in a room with other perverts jerking off, it's probably not for you.
No voice-chat, though for me that was more a pro than a con.
Scenes for the characters are unlocked by spending "likes" via a gacha-system, same goes for outfits. You get a couple of likes a day and a set amount can be awarded by other players. Though which scenes you get is completely rng-based. There is also a pity-system, but they are very stingy with the points you get for duplicates.
You can also "borrow" a scene from another player for a day, to give you a taste, you know like when the dealer gives you your first hit for free.
After release (if it ever happens) you supposedly will get likes based on how much money you've given them.
The servers are constantly crashing, as is the game itself. Honestly the cracked version we have here is probably the most stable build of the game I've seen over the last 2 years.
I install the game every so often out of morbid curiosity. And it's been getting worse, especially since the UE5 update.
Performance is abysmal and I'm running the game on a beast of a PC. The game is the only one that has brought my rtx 4090 to its limits.
The game is also constantly in danger of being censored:
They've changed multiple monsters to abide by steams and patreons whims. Several scenes were removed as well.
Helius has been promising Galatea's inclusion for 2 years now and still hasn't delivered (as if steam or patreon will ever let him include a loli-character).
Also, there supposedly will be a SFW single-player mode, though I don't know if its still being promised or not.
He also keeps delaying updates for months on end.
To end this already too long rant:
Please don't give this douche any more money; his herd of sheeple already throws enough at him.
There are so many honest devs out there who are making good games while barely scraping by.
And they are much more worthy of our hard-earned cash than this fucking grifter.

Will I still have access to the game if I stop paying after the first month or so? What happens when there's an update after I've stopped paying? Is it constantly crashing in general or only for a week or so after patches? Pretty big difference, though neither is acceptable. I can't answer that part myself as I've only dropped in briefly to test stuff and haven't really played consistently.
This one is something you need to fix on your end, without question. I did test the UE5 engine and got over 80 FPS at native 4K and don't even bother with DLSS upscaling to boost frame rate because of monitor, but also because the game has such poorly optimized CPU usage that there is likely no CPU on the entire market that can push the RTX 4090 to 100% usage, even after overclocking the CPU. This is while being only able to use 35% of my GPU. With better CPU optimization my FPS would exceed 200 even before upscaling, just using native.
Maybe it was a driver issue or a one patch off issue, but definitely not the norm for the current state of the game. If it were then no one would essentially be able to play when, as you put it, even the RTX 4090 is basically brought to its knees (which it is not).
Yeah, I think there was even a comment on the Patreon post claiming the prior Galatea was the updated one yet that is the post Helius removed of Galatea, and this came days after Helius stated on Discord to not panic and that the Patreon was temp banned while reviewing the new Galatea yet supposedly she isn't even approved per the newest post along with the deleted updated post of her.
Helius is lying out his ass and people on Discord/Patreon are too stupid to get it. Then he is going to find another reason to delay her after Talon, once again. Pretty sure he has said Galatea has been approved like 4-5x by Patreon in the past 18 months. Heh.

Yeah, forgot about invisibility and I didn't mention anon-mode, because why wouldn't you set your name to anon.
I was trying to showcase what you do in the "game", sorry if it came across as if the game was trying to dox you as a pervert.
I played daily for half a year, 2 years ago and every session had several server crashes and ended with me quitting after the game crashes for the umpteenth time.
Haven't played for longer since, just went in and played for a couple of days to look how it ran, usually poorly.
Oh and patches usually take months, even hotfixes.
Honestly don't know, I've only played once since the "upgrade" and that was on the first patch after UE5-update. It ran like shit then. Haven't tried since and I'm certain my cpu isn't bottlenecking the card. Every other game runs just fine in 4k with max settings and without DLSS.
Anyway, none of this changes that Helius is scamming his patrons. Maybe he wasn't in the beginning, but he is now.

Yes, as long as you give them at least 35 bucks you will own the game "forever", as in until they shut off the servers or steam throws them off the plattform, I guess.

So sad how the game is now.. the models are so good, the developers not used generic body model which is GREAT PLUS for me because many indie devs always use the same generic body model doesn't matter which engine and the animations are really good.
Last games that have "unique body" and really good animations are Heros Journey, Succubus Cafe and Perfect Lover.... Fallen Doll would be just one more great game on my list but the devs fucked up...

VAM does use generic body model. They have a single female model, but you can morph it to different shapes. It has some pretty real limitations, especially the face, because VAM uses such an old version of the models. VAM 2 should improve this immensely though, if the world doesn't reach the apocalypse VAMcitizen releases. It particularly struggles with facial expression and issues of low quality content, though once in a blue moon you might find a well customized character or scene.

I'm really hoping performance improves significantly with Vam 2. Performance is one of the main reasons I never really fiddle with Vam and just stick to looking at scenes mostly. Hope desktop controls improve as well.

I doubt it will improve as much as it should, unfortunately, but it should be better at least.
Mesh is actually a shitty programmer and what makes matters worse is he actually refuses to hire more help because he wants to dominate control of the project and reap as much money as possible as he still charges while working on VAM2.
He actually had to abandon VAM (original) entirely and start from complete and total scratch because it was so fucked. Just the loading systems, alone, are enough to shame him so severely if it ever came out his real identity and he programmed such a disaster it could literally prevent him from getting a programming job for life. Easily one of the greatest programming fails this world has ever seen.
Worst part is, there isn't really a full ETA and the game could get stuck in bottleneck development at any time as he is actually learning while he develops VAM2 because he was so astoundingly ignorant he is having to completely massively overhaul his skills and knowledge (also a core reason he is doing it from scratch).
The good part is this means he ditches a fucked up base and doesn't reuse any of that disaster. The other good news is he becomes better, over time, and creates a better product (if the world doesn't legitimately meet the apocalypse first).
The bad part is his comments about the game's performance and future are a mix of good and extremely bad. He is still targeting 2-3 characters, basically max, at a time he says in Discord and believes achieving more isn't realistically possible despite many games feature far more complex physics and animated characters on screen than his goal is attempting (and it isn't a matter of his character vs other's "quality" issue, either... he is just ignorant). He also is quite upfront he expect to build only a certain base framework and then expects other even shittier programmers to make modules/extensions to add functionality, fix what he doesn't do or add, etc. for him which is going to create part of the clusterfuck that is VAM original.
Supposedly we will get another demo this year but I don't fully believe that because he also claimed he released a demo using the words "recently", when someone asked him in Discord like a week or two ago, and it was fucking years ago in 2022.
Speaking of performance, have you tried the new multi-threaded performance fix some random person made to fix his fucked game's performance (that he refuses to make official despite promoting it, himself, for some reason). It helps with the game's incredible CPU bottleneck and might make you have a better experience.
