In most cases when people say that they "can't afford games" they are not in situation that they can't afford entertainment at all, they just need to be picky on what they spend their limited money on.
This is going to be a simplified example : you can either buy a game or a 6pack of beer - how do you spend your evening ? Well most will choose to pirate the game , buy the 6pack and have really nice evening. If they steal the beer there will be consequences ... Now however if they wouldn't be able to pirate they would actually need to chose one.

Breeding Season accused Cloud Meadow's developer of running off with their art assets and half their money due to unfavorable contracts, which led to the cancellation of the Breeding Season game.
