Alyx will still be in future builds from what I've heard, just that it will not take place in the HL universe. He's in fact done a shit load of work improving the current model in terms of detail and general design so he can do more. Him leaving the theme behind is more him saying he wants to build his own game rather than a mere porn parody of Half Life. Granted, I'm not the dev and can't say for sure that that's his thinking, but that's what it sounds more like what he's doing.

It seems good to me that he make his own game with his own designs, if only from Half Life it would be more limited i think

I would love to have the developer working on a game like this based on Eliminator Kaede sandbox style shooting game. Would be so dope.

Until anyone with Patreon $3 tier to share with us I'm not sure. But he did say he was "rebooting" his Half-Life Alyx idea to make an original idea instead, from what we've seen he has been doing some really impressive stuff (like characters removing clothing with proper and realistic physics, something that I believe never done before) and now he is doing something with "Mo-cap" involved.
It feels like this little project became an AAA title done by only one person, the scope has become massive so It's understandable that it's taking him so long, but until someone can confirm that "Mo-cap test" post on Patreon is related to Fap-Life, I can't tell you if this project is abandoned or not.
Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Either development hell or an abandoned game. Hopefully he can keep the scope of the game in check.

Mostly likely development hell, I think he will at least release an update this year. But I've seen on twitter that there are other people working with him, at least by commission. If he really plans to start making his own game, maybe after a solid foundation he will set a team or open a Kickstarter,
I don't think he is the kind of guy that is milking his patreons out of laziness or bad faith but just a very ambitious guy trying to take a step bigger than his leg. At least he is not amateurish.
