It's more like 'I didn't do anything evil, why am I evil?', and choosing to save her vs. sacrificing her to save himself definitely feels like a moral choice.
If it's only level 1 of 99 it seems a bit premature to brand him as evil based on like two choices. What will happen if we get the demon and then go on to be good? Or vice-versa? We going to turn the demon good/corrupt the angel, or will we have a magic companion that doesn't match our alignment? It raises so many questions. I guess we'll see what's going on when chapter 2 comes out.
"it seems a bit premature to brand him as evil based on like two choices." First things first. Evil is an internal coding name. Don't get stuck on that, and there are a lot more than two choices that led you there. Second: My point was, you are the one asking the questions. I already know why he is labeled good, neutral, or evil since the paths are preset, as is the story that follows said paths. So, you will have to wait.
Also, the paths are set based on choices. So, if you simply wanted a harem and still be good, you can do just that. Make the "good choices" all the way there, then select harem, but you can't have them all in one path. We have given some wiggle room on points before locking you on a path. A path that can't be changed drastically. Can't turn a millennia-old demon into pure good, but you do still get to make gray area choices vs pure evil ones, and possibly soften her up, for example. You do get control, but not so soon.
The magic companion will always match your alignment, perfectly. It is why I designed it that way. Regardless of your individual opinion on this matter, the choices the MC is making are leading to a set path. Leaving Oriana for the ogre is most certainly a moral choice, but to the world, and the forces at play, it is also an evil choice. Who is the world? Oriana is in this case, and whatever else is judging us before we are aware of their existence. So, your cowardice was witnessed by someone. But, hey. At least you unlock coward. A skill that allows you to flee from any battle in the future 100% (any non-boss battle). Bottom line, no one is forcing anyone to make said choices. Sadly, the paths are set, and as much as I would like to give it the depth you desire from choices, I do not have a 100K Euro budget. Who decides what is evil/lazy/good?
The 3 you see at the end of ch1, do.
