1.21 Unfinished Beta

Hey guys!

Some testers liked playing this episode. But I’m not happy with it. I’m releasing it as an unfinished beta, which means it’s in an unpolished state, and has some missing dialogue branches.
I basically think the Bangkok episodes are getting too long and linear. This isn’t the experience I want in Female Agent going forward – I don’t want to keep making episodes like this.

I want:
  • Shorter episodes
  • …with more choices, branches and dice rolls that customise your story
  • A tighter, faster moving main plot with constant story progression
  • Better use of montages and time skips (instead of playing out every single club shift)
  • More chances to characterise and customise your heroine
  • More cool spy action to balance out her demeaning undercover work
  • A focus on sex/nude scenes that are more exciting and novel

My plan to achieve this is:
  • Restore the Lifepath. This will enable you the player to customise your heroine’s stats, skills and sexual history before the mission.
  • Cut the flab from the existing Bangkok episodes, and add in some branches and decision points to make them more fun.
  • Very tightly plot out the rest of the Bangkok barmaid arc.

These last two things are what I’m working on right now. It’s complex and challenging work – I’m throwing myself at it for long days, and by the end I’m frazzled – but I’m really excited by it. I feel like the game will make a huge jump forward in quality and player experience in the next few releases.

Play the unfinished beta .

His plan sounds good. I actually would love to see this come to fruition. IF he can get all of it done... and in time...

6 months for this linear update and he wants to make shorter but more complex updates? But, please, for the sake of your Patreons, don't milk them for even longer periods...
It makes me so sad how an actual great concept can get wasted.

The last time he had a plan (not to mention *any* time he's given a plan) it was to deliver three specific side quests and main quest updates and had deliverable deadlines. None of them were met, I don't think more than...one? was completed to date.

So, as far as I'm concerned, plans are words (he's good at making words). Actions are all that matter.

This was the release schedule he posted in August, 2022
  • AUG 31: Episode 1.16 "Fallout" (Early Access)
  • SEP 14: Episode 1.16 "Fallout" (general release)
  • SEP 30: Episode 1.17 "Girls Night Out" (Early Access)
  • OCT 14: Episode 1.17 "Girls Night Out" (general release)
  • OCT 31: Episode 1.18 "White Russian" (Early Access)
  • NOV 14: Episode 1.18 "White Russian" (general release)
  • NOV 30: Episode 1.19 "Big Mac" (Early Access)
  • DEC 14: Episode 1.19 "Big Mac" (general release)
  • DEC 31: Episode 1.20 "Booth Babe" (Early Access)
  • JAN 14: Episode 1.20 "Booth Babe" (general release)
Iirc only the first one was released on schedule (and it was pretty much finished when he posted the schedule). This update is supposed to be Booth Babe (I think?) and he's not even started on Big Mac

What do you mean? She was "stuffed", as she says, by Big Mac in this update. Have you not played/read it?

Can anyone else even start the game? I can open the game in browser but on trying to click "Create a character," nothing happens :HideThePain:

If I had known this was that kinda game, I wouldn't have bothered

I think you should be a complete moron... (no, it's too harsh), overly optimistic (we were optimistic 3 years ago, so no) have a memory like a goldfish (10 sec?) to trust Crush
He relesed unfinished(!) episode after 7 (!!!!!!) months of development. His original estimation was ~2weeks - 1 month
So, how much worth in his promises? Think for yourself

That is a really good chapter... the writing is on point, the situations are hot, I like the new mechanical stuff like the fact that she's gathering intel as she goes and while I suspect the booze/horniness buffs aren't connected to anything, I love the mouse-over mechanic.

Also, as noted above, I think her resentment at playing a hedonistic party-girl is a really good character beat.

Originally, Crush leant into the prude/slut tension because that's what these kinds of games do but it didn't really works as you go into it knowing that the protagonist is an exhibitionist or a masochist or whatever. He also tried to lean into the idea of shame at being seen doing stuff by colleagues but after the initial sting, I think it would make sense that a really driven and ambitious intelligence operative would be fine with being videoed so I don't think either of these tensions are that fruitful.

I don't buy these sources of tension for the character... but a really smart and driven person having to pretend to be this rudderless hippy who just wants to get wasted and finger-banged? That would fucking *sting*

This is all great... one of these every couple of months and within a year we'd have a proper fucking game.

This is actually unbelievable. So, he spends 294928 years on the lifepath, adding stuff and removing stuff, rins and repeat several times, then finally we get Bangkok but the lifepath gets removed, but the episodes are short af and linear af, now he doesn't like that, wants to restore the lifepath and redo Bangkok. All of this in almost a decade of work.

People still pay him money for this? It's outrageous, actually. The dev has some real cheek to keep pulling that shit.

I find blue swallow has paragraphs and paragraphs of text, it's superior in many ways, for example everything the developer wanted to achieve they brought to fruition in reasonable time, there are a lot of events and customization and a life path etc. but I think a weak point is the amount of text, I just don't want to read it. And another weak point is the art.

Crush's idea is good in theory, the problem is his execution has always been crappy and doesn't inspire any confidence that he can achieve his vision. If he can get the life path done and squared away by October, and then from then on offer 2 month updates because of the new sandbox structure/character effects, while providing lots of content, I would be impressed. But I doubt he can do this.

As posted on the last page, the three mini story arcs were supposed to be squared away by the end of January 2023, but he's still working on the last of them a good 16 months later.

The lifepath announcement was to deflect attention away from the fact that he still hasn't delivered an update he said was done weeks ago. There's zero chance of him re-adding it within a reasonable time span.

Ehh, since text is the main/only medium it has to work with, it's an odd complaint. Personally, i find the scenes strike a good balance between details and length. It reads similar to FA main quest (a bit more concise and faster paced, if anything) which is a good thing if you pick it up after FA as a more competent replacement.

I agree. I like Blue Swallow but FA has much better writing I think. Crush is actually a really good writer and I do really like where FA is heading. It needs more choices (so it is good he realises that) but most of all it needs more progress. The lack of updates, and dithering over plot is just atrocious and wastes any good-will the quality of his writing and setup provides.

I also think that FA is much better at this field. Huge amount of text just make it hard to enjoy playing, it feels like reading a book. Psychologicaly this is important to have small bits of texts on the screen, otherwise it feels like work instead of fun.
Also static avatar with just a few different clothes, almost no images, almost no text style. Only choices and huge book as a result. This feels like a completely different league. I would also say that sometimes text is hard to fully understand, it feels like AI result, maybe this is my language skill problem, but I dont have this problem with multiple other games.

But in general I understand logic, you want a lot of choices? Ok but you gonna be bad on all rest fields

For some people reading a book (particularly fiction) is fun. An opposite of work. There's no need to rope some shoddy "psychological" theory into it, when at the end of the day it boils down to nothing but individual preferences and what a person actually finds enjoyable.

The alternative and equally "psychological" take would be that having to click through 10 one-sentence screens instead of having it on single screen you can either read, skim or skip with a single click... is fucking annoying and not "fun".

(but all the extra clicking certainly helps to make the content feel longer, so that's valuable if you take months to produce one scene, i guess)
