And it's true. This is my first time writing here, but the game is very attractive because it is very close to reality (or tries to be), which is why many of us can somehow imagine ourselves in the hero's place. Probably, this is one of the most honest games, so to speak, in terms of fantasies about a hot mom or aunt.
Thank you for the wonderful & thoughtful message.
I don't know if I would say I was trying to make a
realistic game, per se. Perhaps what you mean is that the story doesn't rely on things like mind control or supernatural forces to help the attraction/seduction between Meredith and MC along and tries to find a more
natural way for them to come together.
I'm not sure where I came up with the idea of Meredith being worried that she has been failing as a single mother and that she became exasperated that she "forgot" to teach her grown son how to talk to girls. All I can say is it's been a productive formula.
And I also like that the game has a so-called "game over". The author tells how not to act (including in real life) and maybe some of us will learn something for ourselves.
The "Game Over" popups when MC "dies" is a total homage to games I grew up playing like King's Quest IV, Leisure Suit Larry III, and Police Quest II during the early 90's. When you died, you'd get this obnoxious pop up with a picture of the game dev and they would taunt you like assholes, except in THOSE games, you really were screwed because there was no Retry. You were forced to either 1) start the game over, 2) load from a save game, or 3) quit the game.
I of course subscribe to the philosophy that (in an adventure game) you should never put the player into a predicament that they can't quest their way back out of. In 50K, the "deaths" are just a way to lightly admonish the player, but also reward exploration without any REAL consequences.
And I like the humor, even though I am younger than the author (I was born in 1993), I understand almost all the jokes.
Humor is such a large part of this game (imo). I would be shocked if anyone gets ALL the jokes, myself included, because there are references everywhere--in the dialogue, the artwork, the story beats, and even the music.
I was explaining to someone the other day that Scott's catch phrase "Exactamundo" came from a 1988 cringey
Head and Shoulders commercial starring two douches.
In general, of all three games that I am waiting for, this is the most interesting, the others are Seaside Mystery and Spooky Milk Life. And your game is the most interesting and expected by me, it really feels "alive" unlike most games in NSFW in my opinion.
My philosophy is that if you're going to commit to a game world where you have a character that you have to walk around, the game world should be as inviting and as dynamic as is possible for a 2D cartoon game. I come from the world of music, so I put a lot of emphasis on
soundtrack and
foley (SFX). Of course the game has rain and snow and the skies change with the time of day. In 0.6, you'll start to see evening (dusk) skies and cars in places you never saw them before as a way to build on the game's world.
Cheers!
