I don't know if the plot and characterization were so rich and intricate that you gotta go play the entire prequel. The synopsis presents a more coherent story than the actual game; read that and you're good.

If you have not played Clara's love hotel, or Blackmail and Education. You should. Those are both full length DK games, with plenty of fun content.
