If you're using the booom313 port then here's what I did. Everytime a dialogue box would open up, when you wake up, sleep, talk to someone or something, I drag my finger to the bottom right corner and release my finger. Because in that bottom right corner is an option called Pref. Which stands for preference I think. Once there you should have access to various tabs including a save option.

Hey guys....so I am at book 2...... slave route......after I discovered that Azula is missing for few days, I went to captain rei in the watch tower..... I discovered Azula is trying to assassinate some big officers including rei. So I went to alley and stop the tax collector just like rei said...... then I reported back to her.......

Just go past her and should eventually find a key, I think. Then you keep going, and you should loop back around. If I remember correctly, that is.

I'm pretty sure the person behind the grate IS Sokka. He's mentioned being imprisoned, after all. After you get him the rat and see the pictures, that seems to be all there is to that encounter(for now).
And regarding the pictures, those are of a side-character part of Jet's gang. You know, Jet.
