I was gonna post this, but you beat me to it. For those newer to Daz3D, don't be put off by the fact that Stephanie 6 is a G2F model. "Starter bundles" come with a lot of extras, including clothes, makeup, etc. This bundle comes with 3 models (Stephanie 6, Taylor for Stephanie 6, and Beau for Stephanie 6) along with hair, shoes, an outfit, and poses. So even if you are not interested in the model in particular, you might be able to use the other assets for something else.

If you're talking about sunlight patterns you could use the Iray Sun/ Setting and use a emissive plane for ambient light.

A lot of these have dependencies (i.e., are clothing or textures for other models or products that they sell that you have to buy to use). However, there are some cool seasonal theme pieces like the beanstalk and the creepy trees that might be useful if you want to do some October-themed stuff.

This is just a caution to anyone who wants to download this asset. The theme of this thread is free stuff for Daz3D and the meaning of free stuff is where you can download proper licenses that are offered for free. The site where someone created it or sells it and is offering it for free (Daz3D, Renderosity, etc.) counts as a truly "free" site, however, any software that is uploaded to f95zone is frequently software that someone got through other means and posted it. That means that you actually may have the asset, but not a license to use it. Occasionally developers upload free assets, but you have to look for them and make sure that they come with a license or statement that the asset is free to use and they are the creator.

The ramifications of that are that if the actual license holder comes after you and requests your receipt for "purchasing" the asset and you don't have it, they can come after you for software theft. It's not pretty, as the fines can run into the thousands. This is especially of concern if you use the assets in a game that you then "sell" or get patronage for, as this elevates your visibility. Posts of assets on f95zone are considered off topic for this thread. I am certain that K3NJ1 was not aware, but I wanted to post this as a reminder for everyone. Yeah. I appreciate that comment. Since this thread was really created for people who are largely developing games for commercial or semi-commercial use, I wanted to provide discussion area to point out where the free assets are hiding, and let others share what they have found. Making a game for a profit means that the rules are different, and using stolen assets to create something that generates revenue is bad all around, and can expose the creator to substantial liability. After the thread was created some asked if they could put really cheap things in here too (usually a dollar or under) and so that is permitted, although only assets that are completely free will ever be put in the original post (which is updated when there is a decent-sized site that offers free stuff is posted). If anyone posted something like that and I didn't put it in the original post, message me and I will see to it, as I am only in this thread occasionally and stopped getting alerts.

My shopping experience there has been going downhill anyways as of late, due to the less impressive sales, but that new store layout hurts my eyes...

As for freebies, nothing particularly interesting to report.

In other news, I tried porting these shoes over to G3F from G2F (I grabbed them a while back), but even after following Sickleyield's tutorial on such things/doing the tranfer rigging (figure space) thing they just wouldn't cooperate.

So I'm probably going to find some suitable G3F sandals, and parent the heels only (not the whole shoe), which I've separated and reshaped using Hexagon, to some suitable sandals...

I'd absolutely love some script that could port high heels and other 'not flat' shoes over to G3F from previous gens without issue. That one 'paid' conversion script I tried didn't go well (haven't tried it with the shoes above as I gave up on the script) and it's a pain to try doing it manually, i.e. loading the shoes without fitting them, then positioning the feet to match, then transferring the rigging and hoping it goes well...

an Elizabeth 2 clone for G3F and G8F would also be nice, for all of those E2 cosplay freebies that I have that don't play nice when attempting an autofit on Genesis 3...

I'm sure that's asking for too much though. *sigh*

In my opinion, this is the biggest challenge regarding using "free" stuff for Daz3D. While there is a ton of stuff out there, including in other formats, converting it into Daz3D is not always so easy. It would be wonderful if Daz3D's new bridges were bi-directional, but then again, that would mean they sell less stuff, and we can't have that, now can we?

I don't think this is associated with any Daz sale in particular, but it came up on my best prices of the year email. If you go into Daz and sort by price low to high, you will see that there are a lot of items right now that are $1.99, so maybe something else will strike your fancy. It may not be free, but it's pretty stinkin' close.

If you are interested in picking up any sweet deals, you should pretty much be checking Daz every day right now. They put a bunch of stuff on sale for $1.99 every day. Today is no different with some Genesis 8 HD models (male and female), some sets (East Apartment, Lunar Hotel, and the Collective 3D Create a Room Xpack), and more.
