I think the dev is in a tough spot with this site, because their guidelines for putting a game on hold discourages honest communication from developers. If you voluntarily put your game on hold and don't release an update within 6 months, your game is automatically marked as abandoned, but if you make a post once a quarter saying that the progress is slow but steady, it takes at least 18 months for a game to get marked as abandoned. Some active devs on this site have update cycles longer than 6 months, so what are they supposed to do if they have to take an unplanned break from working on their game? I think, like a lot of other devs who make the games on this site, this dev is probably working on this as a side project/job. I don't fault the dev for that. If they need a year between updates, that's fine with me. I can wait while I play other games. But this site's guidelines for game abandonment don't let a dev just say it's going to be a year before the next update without the threat of being marked abandoned looming over them, which can drive people away from their game. It's not a friendly system for amateur/semipro devs
