There will probably end up being even more effects from desires later too, since I think it's a pretty interesting system that a lot can be done with.
Hopefully there will be some things where the minimum requirement includes having desires at a certain level, too. Since it's currently the only thing we can really do with our mind control powers, it'd be very disappointing if the only thing it did was tweak the odds of something that was already gonna happen anyway, as opposed to making things possible that wouldn't have happened otherwise. Like, right now I have no interest in the camp sex scenes because they were gonna do it anyway if they got horny enough. But if something were to happen specifically because we drove them to obsession over it...

...I've got nothing. It's a number in a corner.

New character!

I must protect her.
I must corrupt her.

I must make her my pet.

...Something tells me she's not as innocent as she looks if we're going to be meeting her over the course of exploring a dungeon spawned by the Goddess of Corruption and Rape Spiders. Even Especially if she's a knight from the group that failed before we got there.

As we're closing in on the release for Alpha 8 (less than a week now!)...
*Excited noises*

...I thought I would ask supporters what kinds of content they'd like to see prioritized for a more content-centric update.
*More sad broke noises*

On an unrelated note, I recently had an idea for a curse, although it'd probably be best saved for the planned "AI update". The curse would simply have them build up a compulsion over time to stop whatever their standing orders are (assuming they're not in the middle of fighting a monster or disarming a trap) and wait for you to give them more orders, and possibly gaining lust buildup whenever you give them orders. Pretty much just an irritation (or so-called "quality of life downgrade") in the dungeon, but with the potential for some fun when used for events and such. I'm not sure what the best name for it would be, though, as "Submissive" seems too general but "Slave" is way too extreme for someone who just likes being told what to do.

So I don't hate the idea, but at this point the scale of how much work it would take to get any given port would likely be:
HTML5 -
Well that's good news since I do have a html player on the phone. Nevertheless, good luck with the development, I'll keep my eye out for if any porting ever happens down the road.

Submissive would work for that. If Curses could "upgrade" then it could go up in stages from Submissive>Dependent>Slave. Could include in different camp interactions, like at Slave tier they practically live in your tent for you to have you way with them however you please.

Can also throw in its opposite Dominant>Domineering>Controlling. Effect being in dungeon that they will become more inclined to ignore you and do what they feel is best. In camp they would again be more incline to ignore what you want and at higher tiers may even want to claim you.

The problem is that I feel like "submissive" is a more general category that could include other curses, such as masochism. There are a lot of potential submission-themed curses, just like there are lots of dominance-themed ones.

Hmm... Maybe "Underling" would work? "Minion" is always fun, but I feel like that deserves to be its own thing. Ooh, yeah, one way or another there should definitely be a curse called "Minion" and associated events where Raine salutes you and calls you "Boss" (I think she already does?) and promises to clear the dungeon in your name before hastily correcting herself to "in Syra's name" (or not correcting herself, depending on how much she's embraced her role).

Can also throw in its opposite Dominant>Domineering>Controlling. Effect being in dungeon that they will become more inclined to ignore you and do what they feel is best. In camp they would again be more incline to ignore what you want and at higher tiers may even want to claim you.
Now *that* would be a problem. Having the knight stop moving and need you to poke them again would just be an annoyance, but having them run off on their own into a situation you want to avoid... That could potentially be more dangerous than any other curse currently in the game. Although Idle Hands still rivals it, if your other knights are too far away...

...Actually, I don't know what new systems have been added to expand curses in the current version, but if there's an intention to give them upsides as well as downsides, maybe the underling curse could allow you to snap them out of masturbation and maybe even trance by giving them an order. Or maybe you can't snap them out of trance, but can give them basic orders when in trance like telling them to leave the monster/trap room. Although that second one would actually be a cool effect for a passive spell... "Conductor", which allows you to give basic orders to an entranced knight as long as they don't involve complex actions like fighting monsters or disarming traps (although maybe traps would be manageable in trance), and maybe allows for additional orders that (probably?) don't have a practical use like "masturbate".

For what it's worth, I believe the voting is (so far) going in a direction that you would agree with in general anyway.

Though I guess I should still encourage every not broke person to hop in and make their opinions known. (I know I need to get more value added into patreon/subscribestar in general)

I actually almost did something like this with scatterbrained. Something like "get X stacks and the character will forget if they're following someone or were given a specific destination" but yeah, currently there aren't any hooks for effects to change character ai patterns in that way (though that could obviously be added and probably will be in an update that deals more with ally AI).

Well that's good news since I do have a html player on the phone. Nevertheless, good luck with the development, I'll keep my eye out for if any porting ever happens down the road.
I probably should look into it sooner rather than later. Like I said I know that a web version does work, I'm just concerned about giving bad first impressions if it turns out to have poor performance. I guess I should get a sample size of people together to check out if performance issues are frequent in an html5 version or not.

"Conductor"

A spell to allow you to tell tranced characters to move might work though. Might need something else to balance it out against threats that want you to be tranced and stay in the room with them, but it'd be worth thinking about.

Also that reminds me that if people have ideas for effects/skills/curses/whatever, do feel free to share. I guess you can also keep them to yourself until modding becomes a thing, but you'll be waiting for a while still.

But I just added Conductor as a skill!
Derp, I even saw and replied to that one earlier. I guess "Director" also works, but "Conductor" kind of gives more of the feeling that you're making them dance like puppets-- Theeeeere's the winner! "Puppeteer"!

Might need something else to balance it out against threats that want you to be tranced and stay in the room with them,
I mean, Astir already exists and completely throws off some threats that are intended to keep you from escaping... But maybe that proves your point more than anything, since an oversight there resulted in an infinite stunlock.

For what it's worth, I believe the voting is (so far) going in a direction that you would agree with in general anyway.
Is there a way to see the votes (or even what the options are) without having the ability to vote? Though to be honest the actual depressing part isn't whether or not I think the vote's gonna go the way I want, but just the general feeling of exclusion when that sort of thing is why I don't have money to throw around in the first place and... Well, I probably shouldn't go too far off on a tangent.

Tweety Bird said:
Probably not, though I'm still probably gonna spend longer than I should agonizing over whether the option I choose is gonna give me the result I want. (But less than usual because it's a rogue-lite and the choice won't stick around for the next 100 hours like some games.) Games with dialogue choices tend to not always go as planned (my go to example is the opening of The Witcher 2 where I chose the dialogue option that said "very funny" but my character just said "fuck you"), but I find it especially common for porn games to assume that gentle = submissive and aggressive/abusive = dominant. Like, I'll choose the option to put a collar on a girl I just enslaved, and my character starts running off about how she's no longer a person and has no worth. And I'm like, dude, I wanted her to snuggle up in my lap like a kitty so I can pet her and tell her how much I love her.

...The Witch loaded these chests, didn't she?

I got worried for a second there, because I thought her knee guard was blood and that she had been seriously injured. Nobody hurts my future slaves precious friends precious future girlfriend-slaves!

Yo, there should be an event where a monster makes its way out of the dungeon and catches one of the knights off guard, but we punch its lights out (probably injuring our hand in the process). It could be a standalone event with Raine where she's like, "Damn, nerd's got hands," or the next part in the "magic knight" subplot with Lucette that leads to her trying to teach us swordsmanship while we try to teach her magic.

(Also, I can't tell if Raine is hypnotized in that picture or just exhausted.)

So, I'm guessing the next Tweet will be "update tomorrow". Let's see...

[This space reserved for Tweet.]

So, anyway, I had a thought about a new mechanic that could be interesting, and it may be something you already thought of or had planned: "threat tokens", in the vein of the "creature tokens" that you might see in a collectible card game. It would basically be a way to have threats interact with the dungeon more dynamically instead of only being in predetermined rooms set at the start of the floor. Some interaction with a specific threat, curse, or status would result in a token being placed in a particular empty room, and that token would be treated like a trap or monster, though probably a weaker-than-average one. *Maybe* certain tokens would be mobile, but that might be a bad fit for the game's overall direction (though it could be an exception for "boss floors" that are meant to have a different type of difficulty than usual floors). The example that comes to mind is if a knight gets implanted with an egg from some monster (not my kind of thing, but if we're gonna cram every known fetish into this game...), they could end up "laying" the egg while moving through the dungeon, leaving an egg token that eventually hatches into a monster token - or trap token, if it's gonna be something that just tries to get a single shot in. Another example might be a mushroom that spreads spores into adjacent rooms, leaving monster tokens for us to fight there. (Ooh, there should definitely be some mushroom monster in the game that tries to take control of the knights with its spores, with at least one event that causes Trance and shows a mushroom growing out of their head.)

(Edit: This could also be used in conjunction with those enemies that flee from battle, like the Bat or Scout Beast, who would appear elsewhere in the dungeon as a monster token with all of its damage retained. Oooh, it would also work *really* well with a "treasure goblin" type monster. A knight opens a chest only for some creature to jump out and run past her, appearing in a random explored empty room as a monster token. You can chase it down to get a few hits in, but its only (or most common) "attack" is to run away and show up in another tile. If you leave it alone in one spot for X number of turns, it disappears for good, but if you defeat it, you get... something?)

This came to mind while thinking of another status effect that could show up, but would again probably be best saved for the AI update: The "Brainjacked" status (better name pending). It basically sets them to carry out a specific command, like attacking an ally, or putting that ally in trance, or just making out with her. Or heading to a certain monster tile and letting it attack her (probably getting a unique scene out of it). Potential causes would be certain attacks from monsters or the effects of one-shot traps or trap tokens, as well as a "post-hypnotic command" that some Trance-using monsters can use to put a Compulsion in the knight, causing them to suddenly get the Brainjacked status at some later point and act out the command. I was specifically thinking about a sort of parasite monster that latches onto a person's head to control them, which is what led to the token idea. There could be a one-shot trap that causes a parasite to latch onto the knight and Brainjack her into seeking out and attacking another knight, with a parasite trap token following around on her tile. If her brainjacking wears off on its own, she can spend a turn or two trying to disarm the "trap" before it triggers again, and any knight she's attacking can also try to disarm it.

Update day tomorrow:)
I knew i--

AHHHH WHAT IS THIS? One of those "Tutorialize s" was "Tutorialize scrolls"! Okay, so overanalyzing this is pointless if the update's gonna come out in less than 24 hours, buuuuut... I'm guessing those numbers are the amount of scrolls we looted from chests and similar sources, but we have a certain amount of "memory slots" that let us teach scrolls that we have zero of. But does "blank out scroll" refer to freeing up a memory slot, or does it do something to the scroll itself? And will we be able to keep memorized scrolls between runs, or will it be like spells where we can spend KP increasing our total memory slots and getting a specific starting one, but still have to pick up most of them in that run? And then there's the question of how Imprinting is different from Teaching... Since it's greyed out despite Lucette passing all requirements, there must be some other conditions, like already having the skill maxed out or something... Could it somehow be linked with curses, which we've been told will be more closely connected with skills in this update? Oh, and being able to see if we've met the basic requirements but failed the desire check will be incredibly useful, and hopefully we'll be able to see it for skills even if we don't have the scroll for them.

*Takes a deep breath*

But none of that is the most important part. I see a new skill icon there (apart from Defensive Array), and if it's what I think it is, I love it.

It's nice that you have an active Twitter and props to Rosen King for keeping everyone in the thread updated as to its assorted goings-on, but do consider sharing some of what you post here to this thread, OP, because if not for aforementioned updates there would've been pretty much complete radio silence as to what's going on.

I have a feeling they probably would have at least told us about some of the more important bits, but since I'm posting literally all(?) of them here, they know they don't need to. Or maybe that's just what I tell myself to feel important. Like, what are they gonna do, repeat something that was already posted? Race to post it before I do? (Since I do try to build up a backlog so it doesn't feel like I'm spamming.) They do regularly pop in here to comment on it and answer questions, after all, so they're not trying to leave us in the dark. I mean, apart from the whole "deliberately not telling us scrolls are a thing until the last second" kind of stuff. ...Actually, , it was just severely lacking context or useful clues.

Reading the description for this game reminds me of a fantastic little old game called Whorelock's Revenge, by the same guy that is making No Haven. Has the dev ever played that at all? Might be a good idea to try it to see what worked and didn't work there to get some ideas here.

Anyway, time for me to try this game.

Let's go! Time to immediately hit a major bug that seems like it should've been easily caught in testing but somehow slipped through! Edit: Actually, since this is gonna be a *lot* to read through, I think I'll try to bold/underline all the parts that are (or might be) bugs, so you can skip right to them if you want.

Edit: Screw it, I put the whole thing in a spoiler tag to save space.

are there any sexy scenes in this game?
"Sexy" is a broad term. There are a lot of scenes throughout the game that may or may not turn you on depending on what you're into, but would fall under the broad category of "sexy". If you just mean intercourse, there are a few lesbian intercourse scenes (and one lesbian cuddle scene), but currently no instances of anyone interacting with another character's dick (unless you count a flying dildo who fucks people's ears) - though that is most likely intended in the future, as you can play a male character and there are scenes where you interact with the girls.

There IS new content added to the game, right? (I assume Mimic monsters are one).
I haven't encountered any mimic monsters yet, though I can confirm trapped chests, and there are also six(?) new scenes you can see at camp. There's also a new story scene when you get to floor five(?) of the dungeon. Haven't met any new monsters yet, although that doesn't necessarily mean there are none.

After one and a half runs, I can confirm trapped chests are in the game (though the one time I found one, it was in a dark area....grrr). No luck getting the new scenes yet, though Impassion should theoretically help. Haven't figured out how to use Coronate properly, which is probably why.

I think the only new scene that would be helped by Impassion would be the Raine/Lucette one. Three of them are masturbation scenes, so just keep an eye on the girls when they have high lust and see if any of them shoo you away and aren't available for interactions. Though I guess a higher pleasure drive could help that, a high community drive might actually make it harder to get them to do it alone instead of finding someone to join them. The remaining two are triggered manually. Find Raine or Elli relaxing (or suggest that they go relax), then choose to join what they're doing. Raine's requires you to have completed the third floor, while Elli's requires a high enough relationship value with her.
