I don't think Eric is really dead and that he could eventually come back for one of the game's finals.
I believe it because the clarification that his funeral didn't include his body seems to be a classic plot device that justifies an "unexpected" return.

May well be and might be a nice surprise. However, what makes you think that? We saw Bernhard's funeral where is neither a corpse nor a coffin to be seen. Anyway, as the USDVA says: "We don't leave them behind, we leave them under."
I like this novel. Actually, I love this novel, however, I do have one complaint:
When I start this up, Im not gonna lie, I plan on taking care of business, and I happen to be an "incest is wincest" kinda guy. But just like most other inthusiasts, I know that it doesnt work that way in real life, because the results can be less than desirable.

I'm not talking about what you see (there are many things that are not seen in this game, one out of all the depilation of Ashley's pussy), but of what is said and the reason why it is said.
The only things we know about Eric's death are:

Now surely Eric's family is not so close around him and Arthur will not win the prize as the Father of the Year, but at this point the plot of the story would seem to loosen up a bit too much.
