Is anyone here a patron and can tell me what he posted in his “I’m alive!” patron-locked post? I’m going to laugh a bit if it’s another, obviously bullshit, excuse for simply not writing an update post for over a month. It’s hilarious that he even put the post behind a pay-wall.

The guy isn’t the worst patreon creator by a long-shot, and he has some needy patrons, but, Jesus Christ, he uses medical excuses for any fucking delay. Most likely just not wanting to get called out for slacking. It’s the main reason I stopped being a patron over a year ago.

Any news about ker and this game, btw sorry for bad eng
As of now, sadly, the only news is a Patreon-only post from over three weeks ago that presumably has the cause for the delay and how long it would be until an update.

Someone finally summarized the patron-only post on the game's blog: Ker got sick and had to go to the hospital in March, so not much was done and he'd be checking to see if there was enough for a release.

That said, it's also been nearly a month since THAT post so there have presumably been further issues.

Ker could be one of those people with weak immune systems and gets sick very easily.
I could be the Queen of the Fairies, ruler of all sparklies and rider of the mystical pink Unicorn.

Of course i'm not.

Nobody rules the sparklies.

And my Unicorn is blue.

None of that changes the fact that devs being sick is becoming a meme and they all seem to drop like flies. Perhaps Ren'py invokes the flu and RPGM casts fever dreams, who knows.

yeah. the guy has been working hard on this game for years and have produced a magnificent game as a result. i certainly wont fault him for taking sometime off from time to time, even more so if he actually was indeed sick.which is quite possible.
While I completely agree with you about the quality of the game and about him deserving time off now and again, I think the "I'm sick." excuse is getting redundant. The entire time I've followed this game, back before Elan was added I believe, he's been saying he's sick after every update. First couple of times was fine, but it's at the point I've decided to stop following the game and developer for a few months. Getting tired of waiting months between updates for 15 minutes of game play and story to be added. I hope Ker does keep making this game because both myself and my wife are enjoying the game. But until there is a decent update I feel my time, and money, would be better spent of creators doing more tangible work

Did anyone notice that the current version on here isn't even the latest available? Based on the lastest post the last was c8m4 and that they are working on c8m5. Latest public version is at least from their .

It is definitely possible that someone gets very sick, even multiple times. But it’s not very likely that this plague seems to disproportionately affect people who make porn games, largely anonymously, on a medium where it’s very easy to abuse the consumer. You can make a good product and still abuse the consumer. If he stretched himself too thin and can no longer handle the workload, then he needs to tell his patrons that. Oh, but that might cause some to stop supporting...

The fact alone that he put this current excuse behind a paywall is itself pretty telling, after his last excuse of the same kind a few months ago was called out by a follower/patron and he responded very defensively.

To be fair, if it's the comment and response I'm thinking of, the comment was basically, "You're probably lying" which if you say to somebody's face, they're not going to like it. But the response wasn't great, especially the grand (And almost certainly badly calculated) claim of being super reliable because of very few "missed releases."

Honestly, though, the bigger issue for me that continually makes me nervous is how these posts never happen during a delay (Even the current incident seems to be a delay, a post saying it was over, then another delay), only after. We can't know Ker's situation, maybe he's getting hospitalized every single time he gets sick due to a condition or exceptionally weak immune system or something. There's nothing you can do to really prove or disprove that, as creator or player. But even the cheapest Tracfones these days have browser capabilities, so you'd think in those cases sooner or later he'd go, "I'm stuck in this bed for another couple weeks, might as well update my Patreon/Blog with the reason." Or give one of the people that works with him on it ability to post on the blog to keep information flowing. The lack of transparency and long periods without posts are getting increasingly worrying, and just looks so exceptionally bad.

And making the last post explaining the delay Patron-only (Not even the first time he's done it, though the first time for a major delay, I think) looks so, so much worse.

My only problem is it happens so often with so many devs. See a delay, they were sick. It's like the 7th dev this week to be in hospital.

Seems they keep finding bugs .... wonder if they caught a virus.

I'm here all week folks.

I know Ker personally from my time working on Harem. His health problems are real and concerning. It was something everyone on the team was aware of. Please be kind and treat the situation respectfully. The man does an insane amount of work in the normal release. The number of renders, coding, and writing that he does is just insane. He has also been making games steadily over the span of a decade. He is not lazy. He is sick. Please be patient.

On the subject of why game development often involves sick time, the simple answer is that game devs A. have an unusually stressful job and B. are likely to not have the financial capital needed to continue development while they are sick. Every game I know that has a moducrum of regular releases has crunch time. Harem is no exception.

It's also more notable with game devs, since we tend to get money via the monthly patreon payouts. In such a case, break time is discouraged as being a kind of theft. The end result is a cycle no one is happy with. Patrons want content, and Devs don't want to work themselves into an early grave putting it out.
