To be honest, whenever I see pancakes or waffles featured on a VN, I always wonder if it is a reference to this trope.

To be honest, whenever I see pancakes or waffles featured on a VN, I always wonder if it is a reference to this trope.

For instance, in Summer Scent, they are having bacon, eggs, and toast, but they've made the MC two waffles "because he was so hungry." (Apparently) gratuitous waffles/gratuitous pancakes seem, to me, to be the sign of a developer in on the joke.

I can't express how happy it makes me to feel that there is a cadre of developers sharing in-jokes among each other.

I think Papyrus got the bad rap not because it was bad, but because too many became enamored of it. Comic Sans, on the other hand, is despised (IMHO) more for how it is misused than how it is overused.
