To be frank, I don't always want to stay in the indie dev scene. If possible, I'd like to hire a team and develop a company. If this porn game thing keeps going anyway. That's why I would like to use Unity or UE4.
I don't really see what one has to do with the other. Which engine you use is down to the kind of game you're making rather than whether you have a team or not. Unity doesn't magically start to be a good choice for a VN just because you're not working alone.

Who says you can't make a respected game in Renp'y? Just look at Doki Doki Literature Club.

Renpy is easy enough for a 1 man team, but it has a low ceiling when it comes to the possibilities of the engine. In my opinion, a game like Harem Hotel would benefit from being a completely 3D open world. You could have sex everywhere in any position. You could walk a girl on all fours around while you do another girl's story. It just has so many more possibilities.

I'm not saying Renpy is bad or not respectable, Renpy is amazing. There's just only so much you can do with it.

If you were given the opportunity to remake Harem Hotel in any engine you wanted, would you?

I think Unity works really fine for HH.

What I do not understand is, why not adding the Bar and Sanctuary to the stairs options to reach them? It would reduce the amount of necessary clicking&moving around. And getting packages at the reception. Same maybe with the kittchen, but starting events while going to the kittchen could be a reason why it is extra.

There are buttons on the bottom left and right of your screen that go to the front door and bar already ;)

Yes, that was exactly what I meant with unnecessary clickings and (mouse) movements.
How is adding the Sanctuary and Bar to the stairs (thus requiring a click on the stairs then a click on the location) less clicks than clicking straight to it with one click on the door/bar icon?

2 more screens are needed to get to the Sanctuary (one for mails), which produce unnecessary waiting time and mouse movement over the screen. Especially with an old notebook with only a touchpad, it makes a big difference if you can choose the location directly.

The stairway options are getting a bit too much for one screen too, so if you had to go to a second set of stairway options that's one click to go to stairway, another click to get to second screen and a third click for "Bar" instead of one click. Likewise clicking three times is less than clicking twice to go "Main door" and then "Sanctuary".

EDIT: Scene transitions are made much quicker by quickly pressing the skip button if the transitions are too much for you, but I dont know how easy it is to do that on a notebook.

Making systems fast and obvious is very good for games. But there's a line I think you should never cross, and that's making things too easy and too fast (flying in WoW). I could make a fast travel system, but then you would never walk around the hotel, and I think a bit of role play is nice so long as it doesn't get in the way.
