Yes she is. Having a justification for the insanity doesn't lessen the insanity. She still pulls knives on people, tries to force people to take drugs without consent, and tries to kill friendly "people" (android).

Ashley has never seriously considered killing someone. Her pulling a knife on people is a defensive thing she's learned as a child. I guess that does make her quite crazy, but she's not inherently crazy. I think part of the reason people like this new side of Ashley is because people can understand she's not inherently an evil person and she's struggling with her past and people want to help her. There was also quite the story arc revolving around her keeping a mask on to survive. She's able to take that mask off with people she trusts, and that's what she's now trying to do.

I used to think similarly about the knife pulling until the last update. Not second to last, when we got the backstory. But the last one (0.8). Her latest story event definitely convinced me she isn't crazy. She can act crazy. But that's a facade. Saying more is entering super spoilers territory.

She doesn't force you to take the pills. She gets disappointed but you can refuse to swallow them. The paradox killing the android was a joke, Ashley's also not that dumb.

Crazy is as crazy does. If one acts crazy, one is crazy. I don't think she qualifies as categorically insane, but definitely crazy. Justification doesn't reduce craziness and perhaps she can be redeemed in the future, but that's potential only.

It plays as a joke for audience because of how Ashley escalates to it and the android's response. It's only funny if Ashley is serious.

In my opinion Ashley is definitely in the category "damaged goods" (like almost any other girl in this game in some way, although I'd say she had the toughest pill to swallow (at least of the non-Elves) with her childhood and the way she was treated at school and so on) - this resulted in her Yandere personality and the way she treats other people and won't let them close to her / see the real her... ...she's surely the most vulnerable of them all if one was able to find a way behind her stainless steel facade, but that's just it - a facade...


...so: just be true and nice to her - show her that life can be something else than shit - and she'll most likely be more thankful and loving than the others in the end...
