Not taken out, as I made a new save with v17(prior to 17.1) and received the quest to buy it - and did so. Something is up with your save/game.

I don't like making assumptions, but in this case it sounds like Lain's Mod. In which case she likely removed the request so it didn't cause any conflicts with the code.

But yeah, skipping events will always break shit.

That is likely a glitch in the coding.
It normally uses the given names that people assign, but there have been such glitches before, where it defaults back to the default name.

That or since it's specifically a walk through dialogue, possibly Runey forgot to use a varname instead. Either is possible.
It's as intended, the pet name is what you call her, everyone else still uses their real name.

Ok, I am mistaken. I had always thought that it changed the name, but I was wrong.
Then again, maybe I am not.
I named the Android Corta as a pet name.

It's a new bug of v17.1, it will be fixed with v17.2 patch. In the mean time, you can install Main Lain's mod to trigger that event with "Talk" option on Kali's door as it should be. Remember that after that event, you can no longer visit Kali's school to trigger Vanessa's questline or ask Kali to send nudes while she's at school anymore.

Yeah, Android's name works differently, for her, you are actually naming her for everyone to use. And Lin's shows up in the info list with her pet name, unlike the others, which is a bit odd. but otherwise, about all it affects if the name in the chat box there.
