I HIGHLY suggest you NOT do this. Just look at the shit show that is Midnight Paradise. Dreams of Desire was one of the best games on here. He finished it, and moved to Midnight Paradise. He switched from Ren'Py to Unity.
There's a lot more ways for things to go wrong in Unity compared to Ren'Py, but there's also a lot more you can do in Unity compared to Ren'Py. I'd agree not recommending someone swapping to Unity with no prior experience, and feel your post is blaming Unity more than the developers lack of experience working on the engine.

It all comes down to what Runey wishes to create. Have no doubt he'd manage to create quality content on either engine.

Maybe nympho would gain a point each day that passes? Or would that be better suited for the Mega-slut trait?
I'd say mega slut on that, maybe both seeing as they aren't as specific to something as cum dump or cum slut would be. Ones like those obviously have their place based on their associated trait act. Cum dump obviously would be gain a point for internal shots and cum slut for having her swallow. For nympho or mega slut, it is a bit tricky to come up with something. Maybe one stops lust at a certain level. One could keep their lust no lower than 2 for example while the other could just be an extra point per act or a daily point as you mentioned.

He switched from Ren'Py to Unity. And was late with a giant buggy mess. He finally gave up on Unity and switched back to Ren'Py. He just released the 2nd Ren'Py release, and is starting to get back the goodwill he lost with the clusterfuck that was the first 2 versions.
Agreed, especially jumping from this to Unreal. Unreal is a full blown 3D engine and is definitely not something to mess around with unless you know what you're doing. At best, I would jump to Unity, but I would 100% stay where you are Runey

The problem with Unity and Unreal is a lot of peoples computers cant handle them, so you could end up losing a part of the base because they cant play the games anymore.

Don't get me wrong - I like Unity. But Unity is spectacularly bad for a visual novel. If I was writing a first person real-time game, or a tech-heavy RPG, I'd consider Unity. For anything like Harem Hotel, I'd go with Ren'Py. That's my take, as a professional C++ programmer and software engineer. I'd much rather code my game in Python than C#, unless I absolutely needed to do something that Ren'Py would suck at - like an FPS.

Dr. Sin found this out the hard way, when his programmers screwed the pooch with the first couple of Midnight Paradise releases. And for no reason - nothing he talked about in MP would have needed to be done in Unity instead of Ren'Py.

The idea with switching to unity, or UE4, would be to take advantage of the engine. I wouldn't make a visual novel in either of those hahaha.

Unreal, certainly not , but there have been a few well made VN's in Unity, so it can be done, it's just a matter of what you want out of it, and what you are comfortable using. They even have templates specifically designed for them (Fungus, and there used to be Vinoma, among others, though their saving system needs work). Then you have the more powerful engine for any minigames, or whatever you wanted to add. But again, it's all a matter of what works for you and your plan.

To be frank, I don't always want to stay in the indie dev scene. If possible, I'd like to hire a team and develop a company. If this porn game thing keeps going anyway. That's why I would like to use Unity or UE4.

Exactly! That is one of the main reasons I am working in unity myself, better to learn something that will help me make a real RPG later. (That, and being dyslexic, the more visual interface of Unity was far easier to work in than the text only Ren'Py).

I don't really see what one has to do with the other. Which engine you use is down to the kind of game you're making rather than whether you have a team or not. Unity doesn't magically start to be a good choice for a VN just because you're not working alone.
