Harem Residence's General Roadmap
New
March 27
Hey guys, today I want to tell you about the current state of the game and what's planned for future patches. I've been dropping some info about this in the Discord server, but let's summarize everything in this post.
Okay, so...
When it comes to the game as a whole, I've decided to split it in two parts. There are several reasons for this.
Reason one. The game growing beyond my expectations. In both game length, and game size. I calculated that most players would be able to clear the game in around 15~20 hours, but that didn't take into consideration the filler content I keep adding. Right now, I have no clue how much time it takes to clear everything the game has to offer, at least once. Also, the game is getting heavier and heavier with each update. Right now, the source files of the game in my computer are more than 16 gigabytes, without image compression. That's ridiculously big for a visual novel.
Reason two. It makes sense narratively. They way I've prepared the storytelling for HR will have you reach a stage that splits "what has happened so far" from "what will happen from no own". Sort of a midpoint, if you like. That's the perfect place to split the game in two.
Reason three. Experience. Most of the knowledge I've obtained while working in HR, when it comes to programming, writing, character design, making renders, etc., can't be applied to the current game as it'd clash with the older stuff. Heck, it's already clashing in some aspects, like in the newer content. So, instead of massively reworking a lot of stuff that would basically mean a remake/remaster, I'll just slit the games in two.
So, yeah. At some point, you'll reach a hint in a heroine that says "To be continued..." or something similar. But there's still a bit of road to walk before that~
Now, let's talk about the content I have for future patches. With no order in particular, of course.
First, for context, let's differentiate what "main storyline" and "filler content" is.
I call "Main Storyline" every piece of content that progresses with the general story of the game, both individual character stories and intertwined ones. For example, Sunday events, Other Perspective events, and every event that allows you to progress with a heroine, or several of them. Basically, if the event has a hint in the Character Screen, it can be considered a main storyline event. What happens in the Other Perspective events is a result of your overall progress with the heroines, so these count as main storyline too.
Now, I call "Filler Content" to every event that's not important to the main storyline and can even be skipped if you so decide. For example, the first time you go to the beach and pool with the girls, during a Sunday event, is considered main storyline. But going to those places again, and again, is considered filler content. Stuff that's there for you to spend time with the girls, but that's it.
Stuff like Aurora, Platinum, the repeatable beach event, the repeatable pool event, hanging out with Rick, the girls invading your futon at night, you paying a night visit to the girls in their rooms, finding them in the bath and joining them, or simply fooling around with them. All of this counts as filler content, with some exceptions.
Now, when it comes to the characters, they're also split in categories. Which are...
The protagonist. The character you play as.
The main heroines. The girls that live with you and pay rent. They being Ai, Ayase, Chitose, Hibiki, Kasumi, Maya, Miya, Otome and Sakura. I often call them "The Main Nine". They are the girls with the upmost importance, and they get a lot of more content compared to the rest of characters.
The side heroines. They're not as important as the main heroines, but they're relevant still. They being Aoi, Fumiko, Kaori, Mako, Megumi, Meiya, Nagi, Nagisa, Sanae, Satsuki, Tsubaki and Yuri. I often call them "The Side Twelve".
The extra characters. They have several roles in the game. They can be support characters for other heroines, like Kanae for Sakura. Erika for Meiya. Or the Aux Nuit girls for Chitose. Or they can be completely unrelated to the main roster, like the girls of Aurora or Platinum. I just call them "Extras".
With that out of the way, I can finally talk about the plan for future patches.
The completion of Platinum. Honestly speaking, this questline is almost complete. Only two more events to go. The karaoke event had Sachie as the focus, so that leaves an event that focuses on Kumiko, and finally an event that focuses on Akeno. When those are done, Platinum will be complete.
The completion of Aurora. Two of the three planned unique clients are already in the game. That would leave the third client, Erina and Reina. The way I plan to tackle this is: Add the third client. Then the Erina related events. Then, finally, Reina, who requires the most work to "get". That will mark Aurora as complete.
The completion of the Rick questline. I'm in the middle of this one at the moment. It's my intention to complete this for the next patch.
Then, the stuff that happens in the house...
Remake the rest of the Night Bath scenes. Currently, Ai and Ayase are complete and in the game. I'll most likely focus on the rest at some point and get them out of the way.
The completion of the "Interactions" with the main nine. The hug, kiss, etc. Currently, you can do this to Ai, Ayase and Kasumi. I will use a different method for these. First I'll get the basic "Dares" out of the way for each girl, then, at some other time, I'll add the more kinkier ones.
The completion of the Night Visit scenes. Currently, you can visit Ayase, Hibiki, Kasumi, Maya or Miya. Cuddle with them, or something else. Next time I tackle those, I'll probably focus on them and try to clear the rest.
The final batch of the girls invading your futon at night. Currently, the heroines invade your futon on their own, except for Maya and Miya, who come together. The final batch will add a little variation, by also having two heroines invade you, instead of one. Like Ai and Chitose at the same time.
Dates. I've been wanting to add the feature to take the girls to dates at will, but I've been postponing that. Take a walk, go eat, watch a movie, or just have fun in general. Depending on the tastes of the heroine.
A new, random event that I got planned. I call it "Caught in the Act". A random example of how it'll work goes like: Let's say you go to Kasumi at night, but she's not in her usual spot. You can either "wait for her", which will return her there. Or go look for her in the house. You could find her doing some solo play, or getting it on with another heroine, like Ayase or Sakura. Then you can decide to watch, or join them. This not only will make more use of other areas in the house that are always empty, but also will give the impression of the girls doing something else other than wait for you to go to them.
Also, more "Fooling Around" variations. The general idea is, the more you lewd a heroine, the more poses you unlock with her. Girls like Kasumi and Sakura have quite a bit of variation, but others barely have one pose or so. Also, other type of variation like threesomes and such, are planned as well.
So, yes. When it comes to random stuff to do, or find... basically "filler content"... I've got quite a bit of it planned for you. The general idea behind these, is for you to have stuff to do with your favorite girls, outside their storylines. Like small distractions to advance in-game time.
Then, there's "Town". Another kind of beast. This event will be larger, will take more in-game time to complete, but will also allow some interactions to happen that normally wouldn't happen in the regular gameplay (Like Kanae and Mizuho, maybe?). But I will talk about this one some other time, as this wall of text is large enough already.
I'm itching to pump all that content out for you guys, and see how you like them. But for the time being, I'll wrap up this post. Next time I'll talk a bit more about other planned content, rewards for the different tiers of support, and some random yapping.
As always, thank you a lot for your support.
Cheers, and stay safe
