Is this the same universe as Bare Witness, or are these just some repurposed characters that are completely divorced from the events of BW?

It really isn't. Can you name saves in AAA games? Just entitled lazy AVN players. Notepad++ exists....so does a pen and paper. You could even just roll back a little and save on a girls face then you know which girl the save is for. This shit really isn't rocket science.
I have numerous excel sheets for complicated AVN's with lots of branches where a named save really isn't helping jack.

I'd say that named saves probably aren't that important for harem games. Unless there is a romance path and a corruption path (or dom/sub, etc.). It is really helpful when there are mutually exclusive routes, or ones that are finicky to get on. Then a bit of personal shorthand can go a long way. Imo.
Knowing the devs, I very much doubt there will be any corruption paths. Though there might be relationship branching of other natures.

don't agree you on this one, I like having the feature, and many AAA games do support it, like BG3 that I last played for example. Why the fuck should I bother with notepad when it's super easy to implement that in ren'py. Many devs just don't bother with it, they are the lazy ones. Especially with games that are heavy in branching.

I don't care one way or the other but I hate when a dev includes named saves and doesn't make it optional. Slows the save game process by a click or two and usually causes me to right-click out of the save screen while it was waiting to input a name, so I have to do it over again.

Stunning visuals, beautiful, very well-made characters and even a decent-looking male MC, which is not often seen in AVNs. It's too early to draw conclusions about the plot, because this is initiation part, but I can already see the tragedy and tension - like that the game is not only "about fun and good times". All in BW traditions. AlterWorlds has proven itself with Bare Witness, so the credit of trust is high.
Of the presented characters we interacted with - Patricia and Nikki took almost all my attention, they are magnificent:
Patricia's personality and attitude are what I like the most. At the moment.
One thing remains a mystery to me. We were given a glimpse into some of the MC's secrets, but how did he beat four douchebags like dolls?

Does he by any chance have Sandevistan installed and Gorilla arms implants?

Earlier on, there's a discussion where MC mentions that he's done some practice in several styles of martial arts. He also has a pretty noticeable size/weight advantage to these guys.
