Weeelll... not exactly for those reasons. If it turns out that Annie is right and the LGMs are hiding something from Humanity that could make them into a threat? Then it might be in our theoretical interest to stop a problem in its tracks before it has the chance to grow to large, so to speak.
(In my canon playthough I'm probably just going to leave them alone / be friendly unless they turn out to be malevolent.)
But who knows, wiping them out, or creating a war with a high tech foe if the conspiracy is right might bring more benefits that it creates. To quote Terry Pratchett:
