Agreed. I was reluctant at first because it's typically not executed well enough to be hot, but it's pretty good. I really like games where I can just stumble upon people going at it, and this game is full of it.
When you see the previous games you realize the dedication that N_taii has put in the game, the sprite with each game improves a lot which makes me want to see how they will be in the character models in HC4, the story and narrative also improves a lot. That's something I like because many developers get stuck and don't know how to continue with their game or spend months without updating anything.

In that sense, we have to be very grateful to N_taii because he makes an effort to bring j to update on a monthly basis, and although some are weaker than others

Do you have a team or are you doing this solo?
I understand it's just him doing all the work, except for the drawings which are done by a Japanese artist. The rest of the work is just N_taii.

I think if there was a team behind the development we would have faster updates and also the game would be completed faster, but it can also be a disaster because it is difficult to agree on what to work on each one, especially in a software like RPG.

For a while I was in a lore team, and if just translating was hard enough working with a team, I can't imagine what it will be like making a complete game.

Having a team also requires a completely different workflow at a very basic level. It is easy to experiment with ideas on a whim to see what works on your own, but can turn a project into a complete clusterfuck if you have other devs, artists, or writers waiting to hear what they should be working on at any given moment or unknowingly sinking multiple days of work into dead ends that wind up being scrapped or changed. If you want to actually save time by having other people there to help, you really need a cohesive design document that is 'locked in' at least three or four months ahead so that everyone is on the same page.

Not to mention that the most useful members of a team are also the ones who are most likely to just go off and make their own game instead, where they would have more control to make it their own ideal fantasy. A surprising number of projects fall apart before they ever get off the ground because of creative disagreements where someone keeps trying to push their own personal fetish into the game at every opportunity and gets upset when they are told to dial it back, or becomes frustrated at being forced to work on smaller pieces of content that they don't personally enjoy.

Outsourcing art/animation assets and having a dedicated writer/proofreader are probably the only two "simple" ways to save time — though the latter usually just cuts down on some low-priority busywork, while the former still comes with its own unique bottlenecks because a freelance artist can only work so fast if they are juggling multiple commissions.

Patreon projects fall apart so often specifically due to the fact that the people making them aren't professional in any sense of the word. Rare is the project that is actually well managed if it's more than one person, but even rarer is the project that is well made if it's only one person. More often than not you either wind up with a bloated mess that goes nowhere like Innocent Witches or a project that dies when its creator suffers any sort of creative block like Fantasy Valley. Very few patreon developers understand working within their limitations. Outsourcing is rare, paying people to work on areas that you are weaker in, actually having people proofread... all areas where most projects fall down. N_Taii seems to understand the simple fact that as one person there is only so much he can do, there is only so much he can make, there is only so grand his games can be.

For better or worse the Henteria Chronicles series maintains a limited scope. For better it means we get more out of the projects with proper stories, characters, and settings. For worse it means the games are short, don't have much variety, and sometimes suffer from stories and dialogue that needed editing. That said I enjoyed the first two enough to subscribe to N_Taii's patreon, so he has to be doing something right.

Wel yes but there's also a different side to it.
I love "Project Wolfenstahl". Also not a team but a single person. He quittet developing games because he outsourced the programming stuff for his game "Deathblight" to someone else. He said he can't do everything alone. So he payed like half or more of the money for the commission and the programmer didn't deliver anything but ran away with all the money.

For average guys creating a porn game, money is a big issue but also missing trust/experience/connections. He shouldn't have given so much money before getting anything in return but even so smaller issues remain.
In HC3, N_Taii sometimes has to wait for the next voice actress, the commissioned pixel art or something else to be delivered. All of that delays the development or at least makes it more challenging.
So i think the main point is overestimating what they can do alone. I can fully understand if someone wants to work on his game alone, even if his/her game has so much more potential the more people would work on it.

Sorry, I'm not sure why I didn't get any notifications for the last few messages. By the way, Update 4 is out : )

I started solo, but for the last few months I've been relying more and more on pixel artists because I want to add more and more custom sprites into the sex scenes and the game in general as well. Of course, any voice acting and illustrations are also done by other artists.

True, I've been scammed by artists before, but not of huge amounts of money. Believe it or not, I've had more trouble getting some artists and voice actresses to let me pay them for their work. One voice actress did a wonderful work, but she disappeared after finishing the commission, and no matter how many times I try, I can't get her to send me the bill^^ It's been 6 months now. Some artists I pay once per year or so, as per their wish.

More commissioned work does also make the whole ~1 month wait per update more challenging as well, as I have to trust the artists will deliver the stuff on time before the release of the update. With time, I've learned to juggle with their strength and weaknesses. If an artist tends to have trouble respecting deadlines, I won't commission from them before I'm scheduled to release a new update.

Yep, solo game-making is all about compromises. We can't all be making the next Witcher 3 game^^ I'd argue that the "not much variety" is meant that way, as I want players to know what they get into when playing my games. For example, I wouldn't have minded getting another NTRPG that's more or less the same as NTRPG2, and another NTRPG4 after that.
As for the writing, I've tried to get better on my own. Paying an editor would just cost far too much based on the sheer amount of text there is in-game. Lately, I've been listening to narrated creepy-pastas on YT when making maps and such. It helps a bit, although I'm far from being on the level of a native speaker quite yet.

For a second there i forgot which Update is supposed to come out this Wednesday so i rushed to your patreon with Lightning speed only to find the free version of the Previous Update. Looks like the Easter bunny only brought depression this year.

Of course, any voice acting and illustrations are also done by other artists.
It's a shame now that i think about it, it would've been 10x times better if it was you who did the moaning while Rose was getting groped in the previous Update.

Oh, well, I guess I'll have to train to replace the voice actresse for HC4. I hope you guys don't mind a slightly more masculine voice for the heroines : ) It's going to take some practice to be able to do several voices for each ones though.
