Okay. Finally managed to sit down and give the demo a whirl. Here's some thoughts.
In large, I agree with a lot of the sentiment that others have been voicing. The map is massive and makes finding the next event to progress a little bit of a hassle, especially if you want to be thorough. I for example ran into the Lumberjacks woods for no reason many times, juuuuust to check if there was an event. This, paired up with the time of day basically tripling the exploration made it a little bothersome.
NTRPG 1 & 2 also used the time of day system to place events, which I actually really like. NTRPG 2 is my alltime favorite NTR game, even beyond the RPGmaker games and I'm trying to think what made that one so good. I think it boils down to the story taking precedence over the "game". I'll try to explain.
In Henteria here, you are a little bit constrained by the game aspect, as you run from point A to point B, trying to find the next trigger to progress. In NTRPG 2, I never felt like that. There was always the handy dandy timetable and even without it, you could easily traverse the small town, knowing where characters are likely to be. The same "technically" goes for this demo, but the characters location feels much more like "This is where this NPC is at this time." rather than "This is where this PERSON is likely to be, due to their occupation or habits."
I think the reason why NTRPG 2 made me care so much was the intro where all you really do is observe these characters living their daily lives, with their silly slice of life hijinx on the side. It made the eventual descent into hell all the more painful and thus effective as an NTR story. Henteria failed to do that for me, at least with this demo. It is really important to try to make the player/viewer/reader get attached to the characters of an NTR story, because otherwise it'll be ineffective when the tragedy begins to unfold.
I think the biggest miss for me is the demon characters, introduced at the end. They are obviously going to be the main antagonists for the NTR, but I personally, would have liked for it to have been Gary. That's another thing that I've found works REALLY well in NTR. Having the antagonist be someone close to the POV character. Gary, being the "funny uncle" type of character, if developed effectively before starting the NTR, could be monstrously hurtful as the NTR antagonist. Being the sole male role model for the protagonist and then slowly finding the man is not only railing the maid, but also the sister and the lady of the house as well. Well... When I say it like that, it gets a little bit too wild, with three separate ladies getting NTRed by one guy. But that's another thing. I would concentrate that sort of story on ONE girl to make the NTR more effective.
Having the villains show up out of the blue CAN work. It did in NTRPG 2 after all. But the thing that made it work was seeing this outsider invading this idyllic life the characters were living and the twisting it and taking it all for himself. Henteria, I feel, didn't quite capture that feel just yet. But how it pans out remains to be seen! I have a good feeling about how it'll develop. Which hopefully will give me a BAD FEELING about how it'll develop, if you catch my meaning. Heh.
As a whole, I see HUGE potential in this game, and despite my own tastes in NTR leaning towards more depressing NTR stories, I think this will be a great game and story, given time. The gameplay implementation and map navigation was the only real issue I found with the game, and I really, REALLY HOPE that you'll be able to save whenever you want, because going back to save in the bedroom would be a pain in the buttocks for people like me who like to have saves at specific times, just in case.
I'm going to be keeping an eye on this project. It's gonna be a good one.
