Ooo boo hoo, someone is making more money than me and I don't like it because all I do is fap to pirated and free games while they are sitting in their castles, drowning in their unlimited wealth sucked from us poor peasants...
Honestly I'm happy Komi could escape economic problems and provide for himself by making HHG. People are acting like he just farted into existence with all this money from supporters. He made something and people liked it. He hasn't charged a single cent from any of this, hasn't put any paid ads and is simply creating a free game. If you're mad about the patron system, then take your discomfort out on Patreon or whatever crowd funding platform that is enabling this type of engagement. If Patreon shuts down right now, all that is gone. Zero security. Development length vs patron support can be discussed in better ways than just calling everyone milkers and scammers. This topic is nothing new.
There's more people dumping hundreds and even thousands of dollars into gacha and microtransactions, yet it's always "the patron supporters are being milked!" narrative. Even if they are being milked (and there definitely are cases), at least it's going into a sole developer that is hopefully improving their life situation regardless of how scummy they are. There's a reason a lot of the developers on here are from developing countries or from poor economic backgrounds. Imagine a maybe depressed or lonely 18 year old, who is maybe struggling with education and finances, ends up making a game in their spare time that is popular enough to garner this much patreon support. That is life changing. They now have the opportunity to improve their life situation. Obviously they won't turn into professional developers overnight or have any kind of professional work experience and/or scheduling. Makes sense that shit will take longer to make at times. Not to mention bad decisions made from lack of experience.
I'm not saying this is the case for Komi, but a lot of people here seem to think every developer on this site is some kind of industry experienced veteran who knows exactly how to optimise their time and have their life in order, just because they made a good game. It's usually the opposite.
If Komi underestimated the time to finish this project, he will learn from it as part of his growth. It's literally his first project, especially for this size and ambition. Even for most developers on this site (look at how many shit or AI art games get pumped out so quickly). Whether it's being naive or just overconfidence, we shall see. But I'm not losing sleep over it. Whether or not Komi should have paused his Patreon during non development periods, that's another topic. But some of the conversations here are dumb af and some of y'all really need to touch grass.

I haven't seen this much dickriding outside of a porn video in a long time. Making all those excuses and strawmen based on feelings ("oh poor Komi is just a growing up indie dev that's still learning the ropes") which go directly against the fact this "project" is going strong into 4+ years of milking. Hope you are at least being paid for it.

No offense but it sounds like you don't really understand. 'Cuck' is not primarily about fetish.
The term cuck literally means a guy whose wife gets impregnated by another man, resulting in the guy wasting his resources raising a child that is not his own. More specifically, the point is that from an evolutionary perspective, the goal of all humans is to pass on their DNA; a cheating wife impedes a man's progress in this regard. A cheating man who has bastard children outside of the marriage and then divides his resources to support those children, also effectively does the same in reverse to his wife.
Keep in mind, we tend to think in very modern terms, but evolution moves slowly. For the overwhelming majority of history, many thousands of years - resources were scarce, and starvation and death due to inadequate resources was common. Social safety nets were virtually non-existent. Even today, plenty of the world still faces this problem. So it's not just a an issue of jealousy. Devoting resources to raise someone else's child means your own true children potentially not having enough of what they need.
It is also worth noting that despite the modern fascination with guys who get off on the idea of being "cucked," they make up a tiny percentage of cucking; the overwhelming majority of the time in reality the cuck does not know or is delusional / in denial about the fact that their wife is cuckolding them.
Over time, the term 'cuck' has been used more broadly, as tends to happen with most terms (see NTR for example lol.)
In this case, the point is that people are being deceived into devoting resources to a dev who is misleading them (the cheating wife in this analogy.) I don't think anyone truly subscribes to Patreon thinking "hey let me pay for this dev to do lines of blow off hookers' ass cracks and deliver jack shit for the next two years!" - They are obviously believing that their subscription is helping to continue progress on the fucking game. However, it starts to become obvious and they remain in denial - not unlike guys who are being cheated on by their wife, despite their friends and family seeing it quite plainly.
The analogy is more apt than you realize.

You said alot but the irony still remains, this is a site for adult games, and "cuck" is a glorified theme present in many games here. My statement is hinting that of all the words to use they chose that one. The one the makes you envision a cheating wife, something that ppl get off on lol It softens the impact of the statement, in simple terms.
