A couple hiccups, but otherwise a pretty smooth dev cycle. Chapter 4 is fully rendered and work on chapter 5 is underway. We'll be introduced to Jenny, the super nerdy coworker that Bob is crushing on.

The hiccups were:

1. The 3DCoat Linux bug with importing materials is still unsolved. The lead developer got back to me and said that he will address the bug in a future build, but no ETA.

2. Bringing Cascadeur animations back into Blender resulted in weird results. After a day of testing, I reported it as a bug with the addon. Within a day, Thomas, the developer behind tackled the bug and released a fix. This guy is an absolute legend. He's been working on this addon for years, which is crucial for bringing Daz figures to Blender. He refuses to take any money or donations for it, telling people to donate to the Blender Foundation instead.

3. Aliyah, the nosy neighbor had an unfortunate shader bug during her debut. The shader for her lips did not have the same settings as her face, resulting in cartoonish depiction. This has been fixed.

4. Not really a hiccup but a pleasant surprise. Marvelous Designer, which I use for cloth simulations, does not have a native Linux build. I was able to make it run anyway but with limitations, where the simulations work on the cpu rather than the much faster gpu. I've been running it on the cpu for months before accidentally stumbling on a post on how to make Daz in Linux run with the gpu. I applied the same method to Marvelous Designer out of curiosity and boom, it works with my GPU now and I'm back to fast cloth sims. Neis!

Cheers,
Dom

Played 'Personal Trainer' in the past.. Enjoyed it. Been playing 'In A Scent' from the beginning.. Just bought 'Personal Trainer' on Steam.. not so much as to play it again as to show some level of support for this one.. I mean, MC is funny as sh*t to me.. Keep on rolling Domiek!
Never have I ever.. waited so patiently for a game update. You're killing me Smalls.. BUT.. I'm not going anywhere.

What's up with the abandoned tag ? Is this a case of real abandoned or just update taking too long and dev not bothering to do anything with the forum ?

In 2023 the game had frequent updates until Domiek decided to prepare his first game "personal trainer" to launch it on Steam, after that he had a child and then decided to take some time, the forum rules say that if his Patreon has no activity for 3 months it is marked "abandoned", now Domiek returned to continue In a Scent and is making progress but until the new update comes out the abandoned tag will remain.

My only prayer to God is that this game comes out as soon as possible. I come here every day to check
I agree and look forward to adding it back to my signature when the update drops. This is one of the best games on this site.

I think that "soon" would be a perfect time for a new release.
What about you, guys?

The thing I'll never understand is why the dev focused on Personal Trainer, a middling effort, while sidelining this, one of the best VN's around. I assume it's what the supporters wanted, but that seems so hard for me to believe.
Steam revenue, most likely. PT was a more complete game, and those often do better than very early release games on Steam.
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
At peak, his Patreon was bringing in about $1K per month, but that was the month of a release. An average of $500-750/month is more reasonable. So ignoring taxes and fees for both platforms, Steam revenue from PT was equal to over 3 years of Patreon revenue.

Unless of course you're taking about decisions farther back than when he took a break from this game to focus on the PT Steam release.

Doubt it, cause I probably would have gotten an early build if so ;)
Fair enough, still that doesn't mean that "soon" wouldn't be a perfect time for a release :HideThePain:
So much waiting sucks :(

As Rehwyn said, PT was a "finished" game that the dev had put aside, and understandably he wanted some economic return for all his work. So he focused on polishing and somewhat completing it so that it would be ready for Steam.
It would have taken years before In A Scent reached that stage.
I didn't like PT much either, to be honest. I believe I left my final review on this site. I was a patron for some time during the development of In a Scent and remained a patron during the first months that he focused on PT, but ended up deciding that for me it wasn't worth supporting the development of something I wasn't interested in to the detriment of something I liked so much.
I'll most probably become a patron again when we finally get an update

I forget, does PT have incest? If so Domiek might run into some trouble soon. Steam is cracking down on 18+ games that have incest and removing them because payment processors started throwing a fit over it.

It does, but it won't run into problems. Steam only removed blatant games that said incest, and rape in the title of the game because of PayPal. Also, almost all these games never say anything about incest or rape in the description unless it's one of those crash grab games which are the ones that got effected.

Steam doesn't make you list any tags either...

So far that's the case, but it's not a guarantee it won't expand further. So still not a bad idea to pay attention.

None of the games say anything about incest, and most of them you have to define the relationship just like you do for them on Patreon. If they are okay on Patreon, and Patreon uses PayPal, they will be fine on Steam.
