Yup, same here, and it's not the first time the compressed version caused loading game file errors.
I suppose this one is a tricky game to compress correctly.
I'm loading the uncompressed one at the moment to check if it works...

I think I’ve found the issue! The 'script_version.txt' shows an older SDK (7.X.X), but the log file has it as 8.1.1. Give it another shot and see if it fixes the issue with loading older saves.

It is not a big deal because this is a kinetic VN, I just start on day 17 or 18 or whatever was the last day where you can start a new playthrough and skip unseen text until the point I was, made a few saves on the way and its done. If was a game with choices was much harder.
I was wrong: it's not a problem with the compressed version. Saved games are not working with the original game too.
I tried changing 'script_version.txt' to (8, 1, 1) but saves are still broken....

Just download the compressed version again—no need to change anything in the .txt file. I repacked it using SDK 8.1.1, so let me know if that got rid of the old save file not loading problem, or not...

I see that the spelling and grammar haven't been fixed or improved. Good thing I saved my script file and quests folder the last time I went through it. Going through the latest update shows a big number of issues with the dialogue. Maybe we will see more of what I call the "Sheriff of Rottingham speech" in the game.
So I started looking into doing another cleanup run, and very good news! It seems that actually MoistSponge did in fact incorporate some of my suggestions in the earlier game days!
(Mostly things like using variables for character names rather than hard coding them in dialogue.)
I'll post back when I get more time to actually look at this.
But it looks like it should be mostly down to the days that have been created (Quests/day <number>) since I last ran this, which was around day 17 or so. We are now up to day 22.
Doing a quick diff between the newly edited files I've run through a parsing script and the default ones from the 0.59 release, the numbers show it only wildly diverges at day_18 and above.
*Edit: Started doing some work on the "prologue" in script.rpy and double checking some Quests/day_1.rpy. Some minor punctuation and grammar issues in day_1, but generally clean.
However the original script.rpy had none of the fixes in it like the later Quests/day* files did. Very odd.
Anyway, I've fixed it and cleaned it up now. I'll get through the rest over the weekend and get a zip file here for integration/testing.
*Edit 2: Holy shit! Last night I learned about a feature of Renpy I didn't know about before. (Being a player, not a developer.) If you hit the "D" key, it will enable debug mode and hot-reload the scripts anytime there is a change on disk. Saves me a LOT of time making edits and then making sure they don't break the game. (like if I screw up and put an extra ] bracket or a misplaced " or '). Taking some time this morning and making edits to basic grammar and punctuation. I'm up to day 4 now. This is going a LOT faster since I discovered the hot-reload thing.
*Edit 3: Going through this is taking a lot longer than I anticipated. A bunch of small fixes for punctuation and minor word swaps (from/form, were/where, to/too, etc.) have been grinding the speed of progress way down. I'm up to day 21/22.

MoistSponge: I have gone through and done another grammar/punctuation/variable/proofreading update on all the scripts for the game. This brings everything current up through the partial day22 in v0.59. As always, feel free to integrate these fixes back into the main game if you desire. I tried my hardest to only fix weird confusing syntax, but otherwise leave the original tone and humor in the dialog intact.
For anyone else interested in testing the fixes: This zip file contains the updated scripts. Just extract the game directory over the default one for testing.
As with all things on the internet a preemptive warning: Do not blindly just extract and run this. Validate the checksum. Ensure you understand what you are doing. No warranty is implied or given.
And the sha256sum for the zip file itself:
