Know this is an old thread. But brand new western digital external ssd failed 1 month after I bought it. Replaced under warranty, but still. 2022, Can say I have had more ssd failures than than hdd fails in the past 30 years

I guess the real lesson in all of this is pretty much: back up your shit, back up your shit, back up your shit.
Pretty sad but a common mistake. about 30 years ago my buddy had a book deal to put out D&D modules in hardcover illustrated high gloss pages. He was using an HP PC and I kept telling him to not forget to back up his work. He did not listen and his HDD crashed. He lost every bit of his work and the book was 99% ready for submittal. He missed his publishing deadline and lost the deal. To this day he has never completed his book or any other. Backup your stuff folks!
I won't chalk this up as a common mistake, Devs who want to be taking seriously should know that backing up your work is one of the most essential things you can do. I'm not buying it, I'm sorry.

Damn that's too bad.Well, because loosing the beginning can be really depressing so you don't want to have anything to do with that anymore. I'm more happy for that the Dev can continue writing at all.
Some 20 years ago I had a bad hard disc crash, nothing to do but to scrap my old and in with a new. Then I started my backup program to take back data from my external disc. I had taken backups every week, so no problem. It was just that every backup was crap, I had never tested my backups (do that!). I lost my novel, nearly finished, about 50 short stories and some hundred poems. I haven't written a single line since then. I've never gotten back my lust to write again. So kudos if we get something at all!!!

Dev does now days short few minute long short stories with pretty open ends and not that much player choice. While i do enjoy the short stories they make, i do wish dev would either remake this one, since it had quite a lot of promise, or start making longer games again.abandoned?

is it that hard to pick up development of a renpy game after losing data, unless they had a whole storyboard written out and no longer can remember their vision for the game. can't they just take the game as is and work from there? unless they lost software licenses / art asset licenses

I think most devs have an idea of what they want the game to be when they start. Then they just go with the flow. The ones who do a storyboard or outline you can tell by the quality of the game and the updates. They do not seem to be all over the place.

True! and yet so many crappy (pervert/'fapping' infested) games are Still out there; surviving.
It just is not fair.
The dev said that something kileld their PC and all their stuff for the project if i remember correctly. However, they decided to make a couple of smaller games since then

Also, many mentioned that this game did not have that much progress anyways and that they could have redone it, but i dont think the dev was replying to that idea

Which is sad, since this had potential, despite it really being in the very early stages of development. Those smaller games while fine, definitely lack lots of things.
