Am I really praising it by stating the fact that it is better than 95% of "1 month solo project, throw-away" games on f95? Many people who complain here actually say that way, and a lot of it is just plain false. I think like quarter of complains in this thread in general are about it not being "meet and fuck" type. "Played for 10 hours and it left me blue balled, worst game ever, give me another 10 hours of content" can't have enough of those comments. Do you really think it would be good to submit to majority?
Is this game really in shit state? I had good time playing it for many hours even before old story stopped, good writing, actual story, interesting characters, nice artwork, gameplay, tolerable bugs. Can't say the same about some other 5star "one in a lifetime miracle" games.
I just want to be the voice of reason to balance the opinion away from complete hate to probably disappointment. Game is really not that bad. And I don't agree with what majority wants in this game.
10 years of development? I'm not really itching to play it all this time. I'm just a consumer, it's not my problem when there are so many other things to do.
It's not a very good game, by any reasonable metric. Just because it's not the worst game ever doesn't mean it's good.
It should just be finished by now, whatever it is, because whatever this is isn't a complicated game. It's a basic dating sim with some light inventory management that uses an existing intellectual property, including its premise, setting, magic system, and several characters as a springboard. Given most of the creative work is in fact already provided for the devs, and they're not programming
anything innovative whatsoever, there's next to no reason this should take this long. Just by its own virtue, it shouldn't take nearly 10 years to make this game.
Point and click adventure games, dating sims and visual novels date back to the early 1980s, and
Innocent Witches brings nothing new to the genre. So if they're not developing new systems, creating a setting or new characters, or even creating a particularly interesting story, what are they doing? Where did all the time go? In a couple years of dedication to learning programming and game development, this sort of game should be child's play. Outside the art assets, this kind of game should take a year or two tops to complete if there was any sort of professional standards possessed by the devs. Who are accepting patreon money, I might add. The lack of integrity here is astounding.
