Wait, really? I did that on my Erynn save because I thought that was the +Erynn option. MC unable to see her come to harm right in front of him and standing up for her. Sticking to the plan is a more... well, not colder MC, but one who can take watching her get smacked around for the goal.
I think the beating him up and taking his phone option was meant to lead somewhere but got ditched (surprise, surprise). So sticking with the plan is the best option for now it seems, plus it allows Erynn to spend some time with her father.
I guess the thinking is by being a hothead you're putting the plan in danger plus ethan calls her and threatens her after so it makes sense even if it sucks
All this is useless because even Elena has decreed that she is my Layla XD
