Well the Emily and John requirement is to do with the fact that Emily and Melissa will have a small falling out over it. For Emily to ask the MC to go and check on Melissa, just before going off to bed. Otherwise there wouldn't be much reason why Emily couldn't go check on her herself. Or much reason or need to even check on her.
Yeah, it makes narrative sense as a requirement for that particular scene. But still think there will need to be another way to start the relationship with Melissa later.

apparently theres a change in code that makes the previous saves unusable in the newer version
