I lost count of how many times dev has died. which is this? 2? 3? either way I don't see this game lasting much longer considering how many times dev pulls this

Setting aside whether they died or not, it isn't the first time someone fake their death to run off with the money.Well, This was a strange thread to read. A conversation about whether or not the dev died is something I never thought I stumble upon.
Perhaps they see the ship sinking and abandoned it and start over or this is just another grift, we don't know.
But it gonna bite them in the ass eventually.

was expecting to see the thread full of RIP and instead I learn that this is the 3rd time this guy died.
Aww, one of the few Honey Select AVNs I bothered keeping up with. I really wish AVN devs would at least finish their AVN before they died, dammit. Let's hope Ocean finishes Summer's Gone before they die of old age too (along with the rest of us).

It's a possibility. Maybe they feel if they abandoned a game it'd hurt their credibility. Especially if the rumors are true and they made multiple games that they stopped working on.
This way, each "failure" is attributed to a different person (albeit dead). Not saying it's very logical but it is within the realm of plausibility.

Isn't faking your death when you are not actually dead fraud? It'd be far easier to simply make up another game studio name (not hard when you're a solo dev) when making a new AVN. No rep is better than bad rep.

I'm not a lawyer and i dont know how those patreon contracts look like, but no matter how often/many usernames get changed, the bank accounts and real names should still be the same. So if any contracts are broken by faking death any of the paying people could make his life hell enough to consider dying for real...
I won't go too far on whether I believe he has passed away or not, but his Mega account got nuked for "Gross Violations of Mega's Terms of Service" just before the news of his passing. If I were a dev and could list the reasons why I would abandon ship, one of them would be out of fear of legal action. From the point of view of someone outside these games, they might see this game (as well as several hundred others out there) as questionable. And when his Mega got nuked for ToS, it may have scared him into thinking that there was going to be some kind of legal hammer coming down on him, so he bailed out.
By no means am I trying to say that this is 100% what happened. The only things I know for sure are 1.) that this game's development has been stopped due to the reason posted on the OP (regardless of said reason's validity) and 2.) the developer's Mega account was nuked just before the Pro-Fan tier release date on SubscribeStar.
Anything and everything else is just speculation.
By no means am I trying to say that this is 100% what happened. Going back to the possible fake death claim. With the multitude of new games starting with brand new devs, it seems. I wonder if any of them are former devs trying to rebrand themselves or escape the perceived bad reputation they may have from giving up on previous ones.
May be a conspiracy theory of mine, but I do wonder...

It's a real shame, this game was a marvel of its genre, I really like the character designs and how the main character works with all the girls, may he rest in peace.
