The sale price is split with Farid 50/50. However... I agree with you that the value could be higher for a slave with better potential. It's currently using a flat value for F- slaves regardless of their potential. Let me try something here...

I just feel like it doesn't make much sense when buying a slave from the auction cost at least 100+ but we can't even sell for half of that.

Isn't that the same thing when you buy a computer and try to sell it to a pawn shop?

The purpose of this tweak was to make it harder to live off of Fog-hunting once you've reached the point of being able to do it consistently with the easiest battles. Even at 15 sparks per slave, you can make a profit with it, since you can hunt every day and even multiple times per day. It does seem incongruous with the cost of buying slaves from the market, though.

I guess that bastard Farid is lying to us about the 50% commission then

Hm... yeah, I guess we have to keep it cohesive lore wise. And therefore make the prize as it was in 2.1.

Then, with the economy rework of 2.3, we'll just make some end-game things more expensive, like buying a house (actually we can do that now. It seems the prize to buy a house is totally ridiculous)

Having late-game money sinks doesn't solve the problem of being able to survive / make ends meet without having to train and sell slaves, which removes the time pressure from training. As it stands, you can survive in the Slums or a cheap district by living off of arena winnings, but it feels precarious, and there's the risk that your slave will die in the arena each time, killing your golden goose. Once you can consistently win Fog battles, it's basically free money.

I do understand this logic, I guess I'm just used to fog-hunting with jonny to make up for early spark issues. With jonny, you kinda have to train your strength regardless to reduce the amounts of rebelling slaves anyways.
This sort of just pushed up the difficulty for me quite a bit and I'm not quite sure how to progress.

I would imagine with the fog hunting giving 15 sparks,it will more or less be like:
1. lend money (and don't return it until the deadline)
2. get housing
3. get isabella
4. get a guild contract and train slave with isabella while training strength

The fighting back chance has been reduced somewhat, for low tier punishments at least. It also is affected by the master’s aura strength compared to the slave. Jonny is a low-tier mage and can cast Magna Magnifika to bolster his aura before trying to punish a slave, reducing their chance of rebelling. For less resistance, pick a slave with low stats, especially nature, and no gladiatrix training. The master’s combat stats are also slightly better at the start (once he has at least D- combat skill, which can be accomplished by losing lots of spars or wearing an aketon). Get a lash (or better, a whip) and you should be able to defeat some weak slaves even as Jonny without harming them (the lash, whip and cattle prod damage morale/purple heart instead of health). If you take a Guild contract, the prepayment will help cover the equipment costs.

Haven't we made the time needed for training super long before being able to win fog battle?

And training for fighting in early game is a bit of a suicide in terms of time management.

I'm thinking that if someone is making JONT gameplay about making money thanks to fighting... he'll have had fun doing it, and therefore the game will have done its job.

Considering how the payout is now 15 spark yes, it's basically suicide. If it was the same payout as before it's doable for sure. Might need a bit of savescuming but it's doable.

I used to do that a lot, you can max out your fitness and fighting skill quite fast in the arena and then beating the easier opponents is very doable and the money was so good I thought it was game breaking, it was so good it ruined the game for me. Economy management is important part of the game, especially early game, it should not have a relatively easy winning strategy. I don't know if 15 sparks is too low, but it shouldn't be important income source, just a source for getting slaves with good potentials.

We’ve made this more difficult. It used to be possible to level up by losing. Now to progress via sparring, you need to win against opponents of appropriate tier (higher than your natural/non-Aketon skill level). High tier opponents generally require armor, weapons and special techniques.

You're definitely right and that's what we've been thinking since literally September. And yet every idea we're coming up now take less than a day to implement, so that's been the problem ^^

Also since we were blocked by the sound bug, we thought "let's wait a few days so the bug might be resolved by our busy engine specialist" but it seems that the bug is impossible to sort out even by him, so we'll have to resort to leaving it in.

On a side note, it's cool that we're having more and more bug reports. These are the only essential focus, new features haven't made us waste time, playtesting mostly did (remember the code has been completely adjusted for 2.2 to unify all and make it easier to work with).

Given the time we've spent on 2.2, I at least want it to be as perfectly stable as it can. I want the game to get back to its former glory and have people share the upcoming full version on their country's most popular torrent site. If we release the stable version and there are unexpected bugs provoked by bugfixed, we might ruin our efforts. Of course a hotfix is possible but... We'd hope to at least do our best to be thorough in our research for bugs. We want to spend at least two or three days without finding a bug or balance problem that makes the game as easy as broken or as hard as overly frustrating.

I think, however, that it could be only a matter of days. I'm pretty confident for a release date before the end of november at least. (y)
I'm very happy to hear that. If the game gets held up because of issues out of your control then there's no complaints here. I'm glad that the game is taking a while to finish up because it's going so smooth and from the looks of it you guys are enjoying yourselves too. I've just seen too many shitty games fall under the poor project management cycle and get stuck in pre-alpha stage before the creator gets bored with the project and drop it. Cough Akabur. Keep up the great work, I'm eagerly anticipating 2.2 and can wait as long as is needed.

I think it makes sense that you can't sell F quality slaves for anywhere near what you buy them for from Farid. Farid is selling to slavers (like you) who want to train their own slaves. You're selling to clients who want completed slaves.

That said... I dunno, you risk death every time you go into the fogs. I guess milling people out without training them should not make a great profit, but the game probably also shouldn't be balanced around save scumming until you get an ideal encounter. It's fine if you basically have to part your untrained slaves out for meat because trainers want to buy from Farid and not you, but the fogs should still offer a lot of rewarding and exciting opportunities.

Well with the older versions of the game it was possible to churn slaves from the fogs for some change, but I think this time they want to focus on making the fogs more of an end-game feature. Slaves you get from the fogs now typically have better stats than those found on the market so it's an incentive to get good at fighting so you can pick up high quality slaves at no cost other than maybe your medical bills for injuries.

It has been the case since before the game had ever been revived. I remember playing v1.8 one year and a half ago (before I took back development) and slaves from the fog were already god-tier.

So was always an "end-game" things... but too OP for the taste of Imperator August and I agree with his change.

Yeah I played the original version where the Fogs just gave completely random slaves and was absolutely not worth your time. I think it was one of the HongFire patches (either 1.6 or 1.7 versions) when the Fogs were buffed to give god tier slaves. I definitely agree with the rebalance so that it's not immediately profitable to just spec full combat and sell slaves off the Fogs but I just wanted to say that before the Fogs gave good slaves that may have been the original intention.
